The predicted salary is between 45000 - 55000 Β£ per year.

As a Ganger, you will lead a small team of operatives delivering civil engineering and utility projects safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. You will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of site activities, ensuring works are completed in accordance with company procedures, client specifications and programme requirements. Working closely with Supervisors, Site Managers and Project Managers, you will provide leadership on site, promote a positive safety culture and ensure your team has the resources, information and support needed to deliver successful projects across East Anglia, the East Midlands and South Lincolnshire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of operatives carrying out civil engineering and utility works.
  • Organise daily site activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and on programme.
  • Allocate tasks and resources to maximise productivity.
  • Coordinate labour, plant, materials, traffic management and subcontractors.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and client requirements.
  • Monitor productivity, quality and progress, reporting any issues to the Supervisor or Site Manager.
  • Identify upcoming resource requirements and communicate them in advance.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping across all work areas.
  • Represent the company professionally when dealing with clients, the public and other stakeholders.

Administration

  • Ensure compliance with all company and client policies, procedures and management systems.
  • Complete timesheets, plant records, vehicle checks and other site documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain site records, permits and electronic reporting systems where required.
  • Report delays, changes and issues promptly to the management team.
  • Assist in improving working practices and operational processes.

Health, Safety and Environmental

  • Promote and maintain an excellent health, safety and environmental culture.
  • Lead daily briefings, toolbox talks and site inductions where required.
  • Complete and review risk assessments, dynamic risk assessments and method statements.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with company and client safety procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with PPE requirements and safe systems of work.
  • Identify hazards and implement suitable control measures.
  • Report and investigate incidents, accidents and near misses, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions are identified.
  • Ensure sites are left safe and secure at the end of each shift.

Plant, Vehicles and Equipment

  • Ensure company vehicles, plant and equipment are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Carry out daily and monthly inspections as required.
  • Report defects immediately and arrange repairs where necessary.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment is suitable for the task and operated by competent personnel.
  • Monitor materials and equipment to minimise waste and maximise efficiency.

Team Leadership

  • Lead by example and promote the company's values at all times.
  • Motivate, coach and develop site operatives to achieve high standards of performance.
  • Support new starters and apprentices through mentoring and on-site training.
  • Identify training needs and provide feedback to management.
  • Encourage teamwork, communication and continuous improvement.
  • Manage day-to-day performance and address issues promptly and professionally.

General Responsibilities

  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and subcontractors.
  • Attend meetings, training courses and development sessions as required.
  • Be flexible in supporting projects across the business.
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role.
  • Comply with GDPR and maintain confidentiality of company and client information.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)
  • Emergency First Aid at Work (3 Day)
  • EUSR Water Hygiene
  • NRSWA (Street Works)
  • Confined Spaces
  • CPCS or NPORS Plant Operator

Desirable

  • Temporary Works Supervisor
  • Experience leading teams on civil engineering or utility projects.
  • Good understanding of water, wastewater or infrastructure construction.
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills.

Training and development will be provided for the successful candidate where required.
