We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join our team at Network Plus, supporting the United Utilities contract. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with project managers, field teams, and client representatives to ensure designs are technically accurate, compliant with regulatory standards, and delivered on time. The ideal candidate will have experience in utility or civil engineering design, strong CAD skills, and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
Key Responsibilities
Reviewing scope & modelling documentation
Produce and make ongoing updates to the H&S file throughout various stages of the project ensuring that it is up to date and available at the end of the project Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 throughout the design process (PCI, CCP & DRA etc)
Technical Queries & Design Submissions via CEMAR
Drawing Registers
Arranging Pre-Design Meetings & Sign Off Meetings via Third Party Request Forms
Collaborate with both internal design team, client design team and external consultants to execute creative projects
Private Land Drawing (Land Referencing, Section 6, Section 159 & Section 168 Notice Plans)
Site Investigation Drawings (Trial Hole/Coupon Cut/Sample Cut)
Completing Overview Drawings with the returned Site Investigation Information
Competently produce detailed design & as-laid drawings using AutoCAD in accordance with the client\’s asset design standards and procedures.
Liaising with the internal team to report any significant hazards or scope changes
Arranging internal design reviews with the Project Manager, Operations Manager & Design manager
Delegating workload & support the junior members of the design team
Reviewing and completing a redline mark up of as-laid drawings
Requesting & reviewing STAT plans
Producing a weekly design report & presenting information to the Design Manager during the weekly design output meeting.
Experience and Qualifications
Engineering qualifications desirable however good experience would be considered.
Experience of working in the water industry on clean/wastewater projects
Understanding and knowledge of relevant Engineering specifications that apply to the water industry
Knowledge and Awareness of CDM 2015
Proficient user of AutoCAD
Competent in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work as part of a team and to organise your workload across multiple projects
Willingness to mentor and support less experienced colleagues
