As a Junior Estimator, you will work as part of the wider commercial team, supporting the bid process through the preparation of accurate pricing and effective cost management. This role will involve responsibility for pre-contract cost elements and contributing to the delivery of robust and competitive estimates, applying strong commercial awareness throughout. Experience within civil engineering and the utilities sector would be highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the wider commercial team in the preparation of pricing enquiries as part of the tender and bid process, reviewing returned quotations for accuracy, completeness, and value.
- Assist in the development of detailed cost estimates for entire projects and proposals, including labour, plant and equipment, materials, subcontractors, overheads, insurance, margins, and any other cost factors that may impact project delivery.
- Price, monitor, and update project cost estimates, ensuring all relevant contract documentation is received, reviewed, and fully understood.
- Produce, review, and maintain estimating documentation and contractual risk assessments, supporting the preparation of high-quality tender submissions for clients.
- Track, manage, and clearly document changes, clarifications, and variations throughout the tender lifecycle, ensuring cost impacts are accurately captured.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing, secure best-value services, and maintain an approved subcontractor and supplier database.
- Assist with post-tender reviews of unsuccessful bids and analyse the commercial performance of awarded projects to support continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the ongoing review and improvement of estimating systems, processes, and controls to maximise efficiency within the commercial function.
- Provide estimating and pricing support across a range of ad hoc tenders and commercial activities as required.
Experience and Qualifications
