As Commercial Director, you will play a vital role on the Senior Management Team, driving strategic relationships with our clients and ensuring commercial excellence across the business. This role will be the key business partner to the Managing Director for the respective Division, who will be able to demonstrate clear commercial leadership as well as strongly influence financial performance through that partnership.

Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage commercial aspects of the Contract operations with a focus on revenue and profit maximisation and risk assessment of new and existing contracts.
- Enhance margin/value by working with operational and commercial teams.
- Support underperforming contracts and drive improved performance through clear improvement plans.
- Own cash collection, review performance/efficiency and ageing finance, and strive to beat budget targets while resolving aged items.
- Ensure a consistent approach to contracts, adapting business ways of working and driving improvements where appropriate.
- Lead data/performance management to enable efficient operations, identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and enhance margins.
- Ensure adherence to contractual and statutory requirements, including subcontract terms and the Construction Act.
- Support the rollout of a new commercial system, ensuring effective on-ground use and proposing improvements for contract controls.
- Lead bid reviews with the Business Development team, estimators, operations teams and the Managing Director.
- Conduct post-mobilisation reviews to understand contract performance, cash, profit, operating model, and overhead.
- Lead the resolution of any disputes.
- Build and lead a high-performing commercial team of up to 30 FTEs with growth opportunities.
Functional Responsibilities
- Pricing/estimating in collaboration with Business Development.
- Managing and supporting Contract Commercial Teams.
- Efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the business with regular liaison with stakeholders.
- Achieve annual and monthly commercial objectives and targets in line with the annual contract plan.
- Negotiate key contract terms for new and existing contracts to minimise risk and maximise returns.
- Review and maintain fit-for-purpose processes for cost & value, subcontractor relationships, weekly P&L, and application accuracy.
- Drive a culture of margin improvement and conduct weekly/monthly performance reviews with action plans for underperformance.

Experience and Qualifications
- Management of subcontractors.
- Leadership of a team and of a multidisciplined team (Senior QS, QS, Commercial assistants).
- Experience with high-volume contracts.
- Production of cost value reconciliations (Weekly P&L statements).
- Experience with new contracts and change management (setting up new processes).
- Commercial management of £75m+ p.a. contracts, ideally with multiple contracts.
- Development of relationships with senior internal and customer stakeholders.
- Identification of process and performance gaps and resolution through improvements.
Technical Competencies
- Degree qualification (RICS or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of contracts – NEC preferred.
- Awareness of industry issues; health, safety and environmental awareness.
