Network Plus is one of the UK's leading providers of essential utility and infrastructure services, delivering critical work across power, gas, water, and telecoms for the nation's largest network owners. We're building the next generation of AI solutions to support business growth, and we're looking for an AI Engineer who's genuinely fired up about solving complex challenges with a modern AI tech stack. We need a builder — someone who can bridge product thinking, solid engineering, and real-world AI applications, turning ambitious ideas into production-ready systems that drive measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy AI solutions across the business
  • Integrate AI with line-of-business applications and data pipelines hosted on Azure and Microsoft Fabric
  • Build AI automation and agent workflows
  • Implement observability across our AI stack - evaluation, prompt monitoring, model performance, and cost
  • Embed governance, security, and responsible AI practices from day one
  • Collaborate with the Data and AI Product Owner and wider data and engineering teams to drive AI adoption across Network Plus.

Tech Stack

  • C#, .NET and/or Python
  • Azure, Azure AI Services, Microsoft Fabric
  • SQL Server
  • Modern AI toolkit including LLMs, RAG pipelines, vector databases, and agent frameworks
  • Tools to design and build agents such as Copilot Studio

What Sets This Role Apart

  • You'll own it end-to-end. From concept to deployment, you'll shape AI solutions that deliver impact for the business
  • Real production AI. You'll work on live systems that real people across Network Plus depend on.
  • Genuine influence. You'll help shape how AI is embedded into core business operations and have a real say in technical direction.
  • Modern stack, modern problems. You'll work hands-on with the latest AI tooling - agents, RAG, observability, the lot - solving challenges that don't have textbook answers yet.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience shipping AI/LLM-powered features into production, ideally across line-of-business applications and data platforms like Microsoft Fabric
  • Deep understanding of LLM integration, prompt engineering, AI agents and workflows, RAG systems, and vector databases
  • Strong backend engineering skills (integration, data processing, system design)
  • Confident hands-on coder in C# and/or Python
  • Solid knowledge of Azure and Azure AI Services
  • Proactive mindset with a product lens - you ask the right questions, not just write code

How to prepare for a job interview at Network Plus

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Network Plus uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
