Are you an experienced Software Engineer looking to join a leader in geospatial services for the Electric Utilities market? At NM Group we're now seeking an ambitious individual to help evolve our pioneering technology. Required Skills & Experience of the Software Engineer:

  • Strong Python: Writing and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Able to solve complex problems.
  • Excellent written, oral and visual communication skills to explain complex information.
  • Enjoys and works well in a team-based environment, and is self-motivated to individually succeed.
  • Understands and implements best practices of modern Software Engineering including Agile Software Development, Automated Testing, Configuration Management principles and DevOps.
  • Has the rigour and care to manage and control changes to development, testing and production environments.

Desirable skills & experience:

  • C# / .NET: experience building libraries and command-line tools with .NET 8.0+.
  • Comfortable reading and safely modifying existing/legacy codebases; good documentation and PR practices.
  • SQL Databases: PostgreSQL and SQLite experience (schema design, migrations, basic performance tuning).
  • Orchestration & data engineering: experience with workflow/orchestration tools (Prefect or similar) and distributed task queuing (e.g. Celery, RabbitMQ).
  • Testing & automation: writing unit and basic integration tests as well as automating test runs as part of CI pipelines e.g. GitHub Actions.
  • AI-assisted development: comfortable using AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to increase productivity, while validating and testing any AI-generated code and understanding its limitations.
  • Experience building or maintaining REST APIs, microservices, event-driven services, and message-driven patterns.
  • Containerisation: experience using Docker and deploying containerised applications.

Nice to have:

  • GIS & point-cloud processing: GDAL/PDAL, GeoPandas, Open3D, LAS/LAZ/Raster/Vector handling, spatial transforms and analysis.
  • TypeScript/JavaScript for developing front-end dashboards and user interfaces.
  • Packaging & distribution: familiarity with publishing and versioning packages (NuGet and/or PyPI).
