Network IT are working with a growing and highly regarded managed services provider to recruit a 3rd Line Network Engineer. This is a senior technical role supporting complex, enterprise and ISP-level networks across a diverse customer base covering numerous sectors and industries with their own bespoke requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who thrives in high-impact environments, enjoys solving complex issues, and wants to work across a broad, modern networking stack. This role will require you to work Monday to Friday out of our clients Solihull office, please ensure you can accommodate to these circumstances before applying.
Role Overview
As a 3rd Line Network Engineer, you will provide advanced technical support and own escalated issues across end-to-end network environments. You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex connectivity problems, ensuring the stability, performance, and security of mission-critical systems.
You will work across the full network stack — from ISP backbone and WAN connectivity through to customer edge, firewalls, LAN switching, and wireless infrastructure — playing a key role in maintaining high service standards and customer satisfaction. This role requires a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and deliver under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 3rd line support across complex enterprise and ISP-level network environments
- Own and resolve escalated network incidents, performing deep technical diagnostics
- Support full-stack networking including WAN, LAN, routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, and SD-WAN
- Troubleshoot issues across core backbone, circuits, customer edge, and on-site infrastructure
- Work across multi-vendor environments including Fortinet, Cisco Meraki, and Palo Alto
- Ensure high levels of network performance, availability, and reliability
- Maintain detailed documentation and update ITSM/ticketing systems (e.g. ServiceNow)
- Collaborate with internal teams and support knowledge sharing across the wider technical function
- Support customers in mission-critical environments, ensuring professionalism and accuracy at all times
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a 3rd Line Network Engineer or senior network support role
- Experience supporting large-scale, high-availability network environments (public sector, healthcare, education, or enterprise)
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Routing protocols (BGP, TCP/IP stack)
- WAN/LAN networking
- Firewalls and network security
- Wireless networking and SD-WAN technologies
- Hands-on experience with FortiGate, Cisco Meraki, and Palo Alto
- Experience using ITSM platforms (ServiceNow desirable)
- CCNA certification (essential)
- CCNP certification (highly desirable)
