My client, a private Ophthalmic Eye Clinic based within the Solihull area, has a vacancy for an Ophthalmic Technician. You will be supporting clinicians, doctors, and other professionals, ensuring all patients receive a high standard of care. Ideal candidates will have experience working within an optical environment either similar to the role or as an experienced Optical Assistant.
Responsibilities include:
- Meet and greet patients and provide a pleasant and welcoming environment for them.
- Work autonomously within the clinic environment supporting the consultant-led clinics.
- Carry out all diagnostic procedures including Visual Field Analysis, Tonometry, Pachymetry (using various devices), Biometry (including Immersion), OCTs (including Optic Disc & Anterior segment), and Visual acuities following training to achieve competence if this is not already achieved.
- Adopt empathic, persuasive, and motivational techniques encouraging patients through diagnostic tests, some of which may be prolonged, uncomfortable, and mentally demanding.
- Select and administer ophthalmic drugs including mydriatics, anaesthetics, and lubricating agents during the course of diagnostic tests, observing clinical indicators and contra-indicators.
- Accurately and promptly complete documentation relating to all patient records.
- Liaise with Consultants to ensure the refractive patient pathway is coordinated and patients receive effective communication concerning their procedures and aftercare.
- Be responsible for ordering all consumables required for clinics.
- Be responsible for the ordering of pharmaceuticals in accordance with regulatory standards and ensure that they are readily available when required.
- Be responsible for the ordering and collection of prescription pads.
- Liaise with Consultants to answer queries, book appointments, and provide knowledge and answers to current and prospective patients.
- Report any potential risks, initiating appropriate action/investigation through the risk management system, informing the line manager where appropriate.
The role will be across both of their clinics, Solihull and Olton. Working hours: shifts are either 8am to 4pm or 12pm to 8pm, 5 days a week. The Clinics are open 7 days a week; Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm. You will also be required to work 1 full weekend per month, but will have 2 days off in the week.
In return, they are offering a very competitive salary depending on experience, along with progression within the role.
