Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to assess and verify clients’ food safety management systems and operational practices against recognised GFSI benchmarked standards.
The GFSI Auditor works across a wide range of industry sectors—including food, beverages, packaging, storage, transport and consumer products—using their technical knowledge to evaluate compliance, identify risks, and support clients in improving the integrity of their operations.
By understanding each client’s business processes and conducting robust, impartial audits, the role helps enhance food safety, product quality, and supply chain assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct certification audits in line with relevant ISO, BRCGS or FSSC standards, including opening meetings to explain the audit process, preparing a report and delivering findings.
- Conduct audits both onsite and remotely.
- Make certification or recommendation decisions against the relevant ISO, BRCGS or FSSC standards.
- Build positive relationships with customers to ensure long‑term business growth and identify development opportunities.
- Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure assessment services provide valued support and meet all accreditation requirements.
- Apply strong organisational skills to manage multiple audits, meet deadlines, and support operational KPIs.
- Address customer complaints.
- Take responsibility for personal development while balancing work, safety and life priorities.
- Commit to continuing professional development, maintaining auditor competence and sector‑specific knowledge.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to colleagues, sharing best practice and contributing to auditor development and continuous improvement.
- Technical/Professional Requirements
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook and Microsoft Teams (essential).
- Food safety certificates beneficial, such as HACCP Level 3 minimum, BRCGS, FSSC, ISO 22000 Lead Auditor.
- Degree in food science or a related technical field, or industry experience relevant to BRCGS, FSSC/GMP, typically five years.
- Current experience in a quality or technical role within the food and beverage or food packaging industry.
- ISO 9001 experience preferred but not essential.
- Able to travel to client sites as required; full, clean driving licence where applicable.
