The purpose of the Civils Operative role is to execute telecom‐related civil engineering tasks, ensuring the effective deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of telecommunications infrastructure. The role requires technical expertise, relevant certifications, and the physical ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and adverse weather conditions. By ensuring high‐quality workmanship, collaborating effectively with the team, and maintaining strong communication, the Civils Operative plays a vital role in delivering reliable telecommunications networks and meeting customer expectations.
Reporting
The Civil Operative reports to the Civils Supervisor or Project Manager. Responsible for executing assigned civil tasks efficiently and ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards.
Key Result Areas
- Completion of assigned civil works tasks within the agreed timeline.
- Adherence to project specifications and health & safety standards.
- Proactive resolution of on‐site issues and maintaining work quality.
- Ensuring reinstatement works are carried out to high standards.
Main Tasks
- Perform track work, core drilling, duct blockage resolution, and chamber/cabinet installation as per the project plan.
- Conduct reinstatement tasks such as block paving, tarmac work, and grass reinstatement.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment required for civil works, ensuring they are calibrated and fit for purpose.
- Work in compliance with health and safety regulations, ensuring risk assessments are carried out for tasks.
- Collaborate with the project team to ensure seamless progress and timely reporting of site activities.
- Ensure work is carried out in confined spaces and at heights as required by the project.
- Maintain customer satisfaction by delivering high‐quality work and addressing any issues promptly.
- Perform evaluations of direct reports on the project and give regular feedback to Line Management.

- Authority to carry out civil tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Responsible for maintaining equipment and ensuring tools are used correctly.

Competence Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certifications in relevant civil works or telecom‐related tasks.
- A minimum of 2‐3 years of experience in telecom civil works and reinstatement.
Professional / Technical Competence
- Required Accreditations (Valid for at least 8‐9 months)
- SA004 (Abrasive wheel) – Mandatory
- K008 – Good to have
- Proficient in using hand tools and operating heavy equipment such as diggers (NPORS accreditation preferred).
Personal Competence
- Physically fit to work outdoors in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
