About The Role
As a Back End Developer, you will develop, improve and maintain the server-side applications and services that power the organisation's digital platforms. You will work on both customer-facing products and internal business systems, helping ensure they are secure, reliable, scalable and responsive to user needs.
You will collaborate with developers and business stakeholders to understand requirements, deliver practical technical solutions and support the ongoing improvement of applications. The role offers exposure to high-performance web applications and business-critical systems, with the opportunity to contribute ideas, explore relevant technologies and help shape the organisation's evolving technology landscape. You should have experience with Azure DevOps, Azure SQL and Git, as well as practical skills in debugging and unit testing.
You will bring sound problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and the confidence to investigate technical issues and identify effective resolutions. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, as you will work with technical colleagues and stakeholders to discuss requirements and document systems. You should be able to manage tasks independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related subject is desirable, but relevant commercial experience and technical capability are also valuable. Familiarity with Agile development, continuous integration, DevOps practices or evaluating new technologies would be an advantage.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include developing, maintaining and optimising web applications using C# and ASP.NET Core MVC, and designing and implementing robust back-end services and APIs. You will help create and maintain efficient database architectures, working with Azure SQL to support application performance and dependable access to data.
You will collaborate with developers and stakeholders to clarify needs and deliver high-quality solutions. You will also investigate opportunities to apply database and application technologies that improve functionality, performance or maintainability. Other duties include producing clear technical documentation, supporting applications, troubleshooting issues and contributing to their resolution.
Across your work, you will follow good development practices and help ensure systems remain secure, scalable and high-performing. You will contribute to ongoing improvements to both customer-facing applications and internal platforms, while sharing knowledge and supporting the team’s delivery goals.
Benefits
This permanent, full-time position offers a competitive salary of £35,000–£50,000, depending on experience. You will have the opportunity to work with an internationally recognised organisation and contribute to large-scale, business-critical applications used in a global context.
The role is based in modern offices in Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, within a collaborative and supportive development environment. You will have scope to broaden your technical experience, contribute to meaningful products and pursue long-term career development as the organisation and its technology capabilities grow.
