Network Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced 3rd Line Systems Engineer to join a well-established independent school. This permanent role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a modern IT infrastructure environment, supporting a wide range of enterprise-level systems and network solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing the school's IT infrastructure, ensuring seamless operation and security across all systems. The salary is up to £52,000 per annum, depending on experience.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in enterprise infrastructure and networking, with relevant certifications and experience. A minimum of 3–5 years in a similar role is preferred, demonstrating expertise in systems administration, network management, and cybersecurity. Candidates should have proven experience supporting Microsoft 365 environments, virtualization platforms such as VMware, and managing Active Directory. Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or Cisco CCNA are highly desirable. Strong troubleshooting skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive attitude are essential for success.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintain, monitor, and optimize the school's enterprise network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPN connectivity to ensure high availability and security.
• Support and administer VMware virtualisation environments and core server infrastructure, ensuring stability, performance, and scalability.
• Manage and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint, ensuring smooth operation and user support.
• Assist in managing Azure Active Directory for identity and access management, implementing security best practices.
• Plan and execute infrastructure upgrades, system migrations, and improvements to enhance performance and security.
• Act as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues, providing expert technical support and resolution.
• Collaborate with other IT team members to develop and implement long-term IT strategies aligned with the school's goals.
• Maintain documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and compliance.
