About The Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate secure web applications using TypeScript and AWS. You will contribute throughout the delivery lifecycle, from early client conversations and requirements gathering through technical planning, development, and release. You may work across multiple projects, collaborating with clients and colleagues in engineering, design, and delivery. The role offers meaningful influence over technical strategy, architecture, and engineering standards. We will work with you to shape responsibilities around your strengths and experience, supporting a role that can develop as you and the company grow.
Qualifications
You will bring strong hands-on software engineering experience, particularly in TypeScript or another prominent programming language, and a track record of delivering large-scale platforms that remain secure, reliable, and maintainable. You can assess technologies and design patterns, make sound architectural decisions, and explain technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS is important; familiarity with Azure or Google Cloud is also welcome.
You should understand web application security, including the OWASP Top 10, threat modelling, and secure authentication and authorisation. Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, and security practices throughout the development lifecycle is expected. You will use AI tools to improve efficiency while carefully reviewing, testing, and taking responsibility for generated output. AI should support your judgement, not replace it. Experience with private cloud, Kubernetes, virtualised environments, Rust, C++, or Python is an advantage.
Responsibilities
Lead client relationships as a trusted engineering contact, helping clarify requirements, develop technical plans, communicate progress, and guide work through to release in partnership with the wider team. Design, implement, review, test, deploy, and operate web applications and services, primarily in TypeScript on AWS, selecting other languages and technologies when they best suit the project.
Build security into system design, development, code review, testing, and release. Identify vulnerabilities and edge cases, automate security best practices, and recommend improvements across projects and the organisation. Make architectural decisions that balance delivery needs with long-term maintainability, and explain the reasoning behind them. Support colleagues through pairing, code reviews, mentoring, and constructive feedback. Help establish engineering standards, question existing approaches, and share useful project learning through articles, blogs, or industry talks when appropriate.
Benefits
Sprintworks offers hybrid and flexible working, with a 37.5-hour working week, flexible start and finish times, and core hours from 10:00 to 16:00. The package includes 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, a 5% employer pension contribution, private health insurance, and mental health support. You will also have a training budget for courses, certifications, and conferences, with support for career-related qualifications. Additional benefits include referral bonuses for successful candidate or client introductions, regular team-building activities, seasonal events, and off-site visits. We value individual development, open communication, and a collaborative environment where your expertise can shape client work and our technical direction.
Equal Opportunity
Sprintworks welcomes applications from people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, religions and beliefs, sexual orientations, and disabilities, including neurodivergent people, people with caring responsibilities, and people who have entered technology through non-traditional routes. We are committed to an inclusive recruitment process and workplace where people can contribute as themselves. If you require adjustments at any stage of the hiring process, please let us know so we can work with you to arrange appropriate support.
