About The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled School IT Engineer to join a well-established secondary school located in North Manchester. This role is integral to supporting the school's IT infrastructure, ensuring smooth operation of hardware, software, and network systems to facilitate effective teaching and learning environments. Reporting directly to the IT Service Lead, the successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving technical issues, administering systems, and providing day-to-day IT support to staff and students. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic educational setting, collaborating with a wider trust IT team to maintain and enhance the school's IT services. The position also involves engaging with third-party suppliers, supporting examinations and assessments, and contributing to ongoing IT projects aimed at improving the school's technological capabilities. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering high-quality IT support in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a strong background in IT support, ideally with experience working within the education sector, although this is not essential. Relevant technical qualifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), or equivalent certifications are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues, with a solid understanding of IT infrastructure and systems administration. Excellent communication skills are essential to effectively support end-users, including staff and students. A proactive approach to problem-solving, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are key attributes for success in this role. Prior experience supporting IT projects and managing service desk tickets will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the School IT Engineer include diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, network, and infrastructure issues promptly to minimize downtime. Administering and maintaining the school's IT systems, including installing and configuring equipment, managing user accounts, and ensuring security protocols are followed. Providing technical support to staff and students on a daily basis, assisting with hardware setup, software installation, and troubleshooting. Managing service desk tickets through to resolution, documenting technical procedures, and producing technical documentation for reference. Collaborating with third-party suppliers to ensure timely resolution of technical issues and supporting the delivery of IT projects aimed at enhancing the school's technological environment. Supporting examinations and controlled assessments by ensuring all IT requirements are met and functioning correctly. Reviewing change requests, implementing necessary updates, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement of IT services. Maintaining a reliable, modern IT infrastructure that supports the school's educational and operational goals is a key aspect of this role.

Benefits

  • The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from £32,000 to £35,000, depending on experience. The role offers an excellent benefits package, including participation in the local government pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, and access to professional development opportunities. The position provides a flexible working environment and the chance to be part of a high-performing, supportive team committed to educational excellence. As the trust continues to grow, there will be further opportunities for career advancement and professional development, making this an ideal role for individuals seeking long-term stability and growth within the education sector.
