About The Role

The Data Analyst role at Catalyst is a vital position within the company's expanding Data & Insight team. Based at the company's headquarters in Gateshead, this role involves transforming complex customer, sales, and operational data into clear, actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making across departments. You will work closely with teams in Marketing, Operations, and Finance to develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and data models that support business growth and operational efficiency. Your analytical expertise will help identify trends, opportunities, and risks, enabling the company to enhance customer experience, optimize campaigns, and improve overall business performance.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys translating data into meaningful recommendations. You will be instrumental in automating reporting processes, ensuring data accuracy, and communicating insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Supporting the Lead Data Analyst and collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will contribute significantly to Catalyst's data-driven culture and strategic objectives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess strong, commercial experience as a Data Analyst within a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment, preferably within health, tech, or consumer services sectors. A degree or equivalent qualification in Data, Technology, or a numerate discipline is essential. You should demonstrate proficiency in SQL, with confidence in working with large datasets. Experience with Python or R for data analysis is advantageous. Additionally, familiarity with Excel and at least one Business Intelligence (BI) tool such as Power BI or Tableau is required. Knowledge of customer management systems and EPOS systems will be beneficial.

Candidates should exhibit excellent attention to detail, a methodical approach to analysis, and a basic understanding of statistical concepts. Curiosity and a genuine interest in uncovering the story behind the data are crucial. Strong communication skills are necessary to explain technical findings to non-technical audiences. The ability to manage multiple requests with strong organizational skills, high integrity, and a collaborative approach is essential. A commitment to continuous learning and professional development is highly valued.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities of the Data Analyst include building and maintaining dashboards and self-service reports, primarily using Power BI, to monitor membership, sales, and retention metrics. Automating recurring reports to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort is a key aspect of the role. Ensuring all reports are accurate, well-documented, and easily interpretable by non-technical users is vital.

You will analyze trends related to customer growth, churn, engagement, and campaign performance, providing insights that influence strategic decisions. Responding to ad hoc analysis requests from Marketing, Operations, and Finance teams will be part of your duties. Identifying patterns, risks, and opportunities within the data and flagging these to relevant stakeholders will help guide business initiatives.

Validating incoming data feeds from various systems such as customer databases, EPOS, and marketing platforms is essential to maintain data integrity. Collaborating with Data Engineers to investigate and resolve data discrepancies forms part of your responsibilities. Maintaining comprehensive documentation of report logic, data sources, and analysis processes ensures transparency and reproducibility.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand their information needs and present findings clearly, tailoring communication to technical and non-technical audiences. Supporting the Lead Data Analyst in prioritizing workload and ensuring timely delivery of insights will be critical to your success in this role.
