Maintenance Engineer – South Wales

Location: Bridgend, South Wales
Department: Direct Labour Operations
Salary: £36,000 – £38,000 per year (£44,000 target earnings with bonus and overtime)
Hours: Full-time (Monday to Saturday 45 hours a week, 7.30am‑5.30pm shift pattern, 1 paid Saturday per month)
Reporting to: Service Delivery Field Manager
Job Purpose: Report to the Service Delivery Field Manager; provide first‑time service to customers, resolve network issues, and maintain outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Primarily network maintenance and sweeper support; occasionally perform installations and pre‑pulls at customer premises.
- Manage issued tools and the vehicle assigned per company vehicle policy.
- Complete service works within an agreed SLA of 24 hours.
- Manage day‑to‑day tasks and meet deadlines.
- Follow procedures, splice fibre, and test at multiple points throughout tasks.
- Install fibre cable and CBTs to build specification and Openreach PIA policy.
- Perform fault finding back to the exchange using test equipment (OTDR).
- Complete minor civil works on customer boundaries, including blockage clearances and lead‑ins from Netomnia‑built network.
- Splice within Netomnia fibre network to the highest standard.
- Maintain health & safety compliance.
- Work individually and as part of a team to achieve targets and KPIs.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience in a similar role on or on behalf of the Openreach Network.
- Risk assessment and hazard identification with strong health and safety practice.
- Proven track record in a networking engineering environment.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Physical fitness for manual handling tasks.
- Proactive approach to improving efficiencies.
Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence for minimum 12 months.
- SA001, SA002, S7, S8, SA051c certification.
- IPAF 1b, NRSWA unit 2 (minimum).
- Splicing and testing competence.
- SMART AWARDS preferable.
- Telecommunications experience or transferable skills.
