Job Overview
- Reporting to: Service Delivery Field Manager
- Hours: Full time (Monday to Saturday 45 hours a week, between 7.30 - 5.30pm shift pattern) 1 Saturday per month, paid as overtime.
- Location: Barrow In Furness
- Compensation: £36,000 - £38,000 / year
We provide a competitive starting salary ranging from £36,000 - £38,000 per year. Additionally, you can earn a target bonus of 20% of your salary, along with extra pay for one additional Saturday per month. With these incentives, your on-target earnings can reach up to £44,000 per year!

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Service Delivery Field Manager, the maintenance engineer has a key role in providing a right first‑time service to the customer whilst maintaining an outstanding customer service. The maintenance engineer will resolve any network issues that an installation or service engineer may come across or resolve any outages on the network. You will be installing/replacing CBTs, splicing into FNCs, carrying out minor civils on customer boundaries and acting as a sweeper support to the installation and service engineers. You may be required to carry out customer installs and pre‑pulls depending on business needs and be expected to complete any work within the department that the company requires due to work volumes from our ISP partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Primarily working network maintenance and sweeper support.
- Occasionally required to carry out installations and pre‑pulls to customer premises.
- Manage the tools issued and the vehicle assigned to you as per our vehicle policy.
- Completing service works within an agreed SLA (24hrs).
- Complete assigned tasks on time and manage day‑to‑day jobs.
- Follow all procedures, splice fibre, and test at multiple points throughout the duration of the tasks.
- Installation of fibre cable and CBTs to build specification and Openreach Pia policy.
- Fault finding back to the exchange using test equipment provided (OTDR).
- Completing minor civil works required on customer boundary including blockage clearances and install customer lead‑in from Netomnia built network from Toby box.
- Splicing within Netomnia fibre network to the highest standard.
- Maintaining H&S compliance.
- Work individually and as part of a team to achieve targets and KPIs.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience working in a similar role, working on or on behalf of the Openreach Network.
- Ability to conduct risk assessment and hazard identification, with a strong emphasis on Health and Safety practices.
- Demonstrable experience and a proven track record working in a networking engineering environment (preferred).
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Clear and concise communication abilities.
- Physical fitness for manual handling tasks.
- Ability to foster excellent working relationships within your team, with your manager, and with other teams within the company, with an excellent customer service attitude.
- A proactive approach to improving efficiencies and working smarter.
Qualifications
- Must hold a full UK driving licence for minimum 12 months.
- SA001, SA002, S7, S8, SA051c IPAF 1b NRSWA unit 2 (minimum)
- Splicing and testing SMART AWARDS preferable
- Have telecommunications experience or transferable skills.
