Are you looking for a school position where you can really make a positive difference to children’s lives? Where children love learning and diversity is celebrated? Where a dedicated staff team shares a positive ethos and everyone is valued and cared for? Netherthorpe Primary School is a vibrant and inclusive one-form-entry school close to the heart of the city. We are looking for someone who cares for children and sees their education as something that includes, but is not limited to, academic achievement.
We are seeking an HLTA, who will primarily work with individuals and small groups of children to support and develop their well-being and personal development. The successful candidate will also be able to work with our parents to ensure our pupils are happy, confident, kind and respectful of one another’s individuality. Additionally, there will be some aspects of whole class teaching involved in the role.
The HLTA we recruit will have high aspirations, not only for their own career but for every single one of our children. Our strength at Netherthorpe is the diversity of the community we serve. Our children love coming to school and share a passion for learning. The majority speak an additional language – at any one time there are approximately 20 different languages spoken across school. This creates rich and exciting learning opportunities for the whole school community.
The appointed candidate will:
- Work with groups of children, identified as needing additional pastoral care.
- Support teachers in identifying and implementing strategies that will help children to self-regulate and access learning, including reviewing behaviour related targets as required.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of programmes which assist children and young people to develop positive attitudes towards themselves and others, encourage enhanced motivation, self-esteem and educational achievement.
- Work with individuals or small groups of children on specific aspects of need through a range of strategies and structured interventions.
- Help identify personal, community, family and school based issues which are having an adverse effect on individual children and young people.
- Work closely alongside our Learning Mentor to engage with outside agencies and families to support children in and beyond school.
- Teach whole classes or groups of children, as required, particularly to cover absence or release time.
In addition, the successful candidate will:
- Be patient and kind.
- Understand the needs of young children and work actively to develop positive relationships with them and their families.
- Be curious, not judgemental.
- Be a positive role model.
- Be a team player.
