We are looking for a Counsel, Employment Legal - UK & EMEA, to join our growing EMEA Employment Legal team. This position is based in our London office and will help provide employment legal support to our UK office and to our productions in the UK and across the EMEA region. Additionally, the role may help out on EMEA wide projects. EMEA is already a strong market, but the size, complexity and growth opportunity in the region means there is much more to do. The ideal candidate will welcome the opportunity to be part of a fast‑paced and entrepreneurial company. The role reports to the Director, Employment Legal - EMEA, who is based in Amsterdam. In practice you’ll be taking instructions from the Employment Principal Counsel - EMEA who leads the UK and is also based in London as well as working alongside two other lawyers on the EMEA team.

Counsel for UK & EMEA will get involved with the following:

  • Advising on corporate employment issues (conflicts, dismissals, benefits, compliance, M&A) in the UK in collaboration with the talent teams.
  • Advising on the changes in relation to and helping prepare for the implementation of The Employment Rights Act 2025.
  • Advising on EMEA wide projects in collaboration with the rest of the EMEA Employment Legal team.
  • Advising on production‑related employment issues in the UK and across the EMEA region in collaboration with members of EMEA Employment Legal, Production HR, Business and Legal Affairs, Physical Production, Safety, Content, and other teams who support our local productions.
  • Providing subject‑matter expertise on a broad range of employment issues, including engaging cast and crew, misclassification risks, working time issues, discrimination, harassment and other employment practices, equality issues, and terminations arising on our productions filming in various countries throughout EMEA.
  • Carrying out investigations in the UK and on our EMEA‑based productions, in collaboration with the Talent team.
  • Working with our third‑party local production companies on managing higher‑risk and higher‑profile issues arising on their productions across EMEA.
  • Supporting our Production HR team in the delivery of our Respect@ inclusion training for cast and crew working on productions.
  • Proactively identifying, assessing, and balancing employment law risk, and offering practical, business‑oriented and creative solutions in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Staying abreast of, and advising on, legal developments.
  • Collaborating with the Global Employment Legal team on global issues.
  • Managing and using outside counsel effectively.
  • Supporting Netflix’s commitment to maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace and productions.

Requirements:

We are looking for a UK qualified lawyer with UK employment law experience ideally both in private practice as well as in‑house, and ideally with experience advising on international employment issues. The successful candidate is likely to have a minimum of 5+ years’ PQE experience. You Are The Right Person For This Role If:

  • You have deep knowledge of employment laws in the UK and some experience advising on employment issues in other EMEA countries or EMEA wide.
  • You are able to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Whether an introvert, extrovert or somewhere in between, you thrive in a fast‑paced collaborative environment, possess an abundance of intellectual curiosity, focus on generating results, and exhibit the highest personal and professional standards of integrity and ethics.
  • Friends would describe you as having high empathy.
  • You are a strong team player.
  • You are able to quickly and sensitively build rapport and trust with your employment legal colleagues, local partners and key stakeholders, and value these relationships as essential to success.
  • You consistently exercise great judgment without agonizing, resulting in fast action and smart decisions.
  • You are able to work effectively and collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, think practically, are solution‑oriented, and keep a cool head in high‑stress situations.
  • You are open‑minded and will pivot if the business needs change.
  • You have a great sense of humor and are passionate about our business.
