Netflix is seeking a seasoned content and production clearance manager to join the IP function within the UK Business & Legal Affairs team and advise film and television productions on clearance matters related to copyright, trade mark and other intellectual property and privacy rights. This role is based in our London office and will work closely with the two IP specialist lawyers on the team.
Responsibilities
- Coordinating and managing the production clearance workflow including setting up routine kick off calls, communicating expectations, disseminating materials and onboarding external stakeholders.
- Reviewing negative check reports and evaluating art, wardrobe, props and other production materials to assess if clearance is required and negotiating licence agreements when necessary.
- Reviewing scripts and cuts to assess clearance requirements.
- Serving as a key point of support, answering queries and providing clearance guidance to colleagues and external production teams.
- Escalating clearance matters to IP lawyers as required.
- Leading on document management for the UK IP function, including organising and updating the team’s production clearance resources and templates.
- Proactively learning about and implementing new technology, tools and initiatives to enhance team operational efficiency.
- Liaising with and supporting the IP lawyers on relevant clearance matters and claims.
- Coordinating with other internal cross‑functional teams on clearance matters.
- Maintaining flexibility and openness to take on additional projects as necessary or assigned.
Candidate Profile
- 3+ years of production clearance experience in film and/or television advising on intellectual property, regulatory and privacy rights.
- Excellent working knowledge of the UK film and television production landscape and regulatory environment.
- Experience negotiating and drafting licence agreements for a wide variety of on‑screen production materials.
- Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast‑paced environment, including fielding a high volume of production clearance queries and reviewing a high volume of research reports, licence agreements, trackers and other clearance documents, as well as scripts, cuts and marketing assets.
- Collaborative team player capable of working effectively with internal stakeholders and external production personnel, clearance firms and licensors of production materials.
- Self‑motivated, highly organized, and resourceful, with strong time‑management skills, ability to juggle and prioritise multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously whilst maintaining excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to provide concise, practical, and actionable advice.
- Comfort assessing risk in ambiguous situations and making smart decisions with potential legal and business impact.
- Responds positively to change and is willing to tackle matters outside area of expertise.
