The Maintenance Journeyman is responsible for the high-level troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of complex industrial systems within a manufacturing environment. This role requires a deep technical understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. You will work independently to ensure production continuity, managing everything from high-voltage power distribution to intricate PLC hardware and software controls.

Job Specifications

  • Electrical Systems: Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC motors and control circuits; maintain 480/240 Volt 3-phase MCC and power distribution systems.
  • Automation & Controls: Install, maintain, and repair PLC and/or DCS hardware and software; replace critical control devices such as limit, proximity, and photo switches.
  • Mechanical & Pneumatic Repair: Install and repair industrial mechanical and pneumatic equipment, including valves and high-voltage electrical drops.
  • Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret complex electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics, drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Facility Support: Move and set up equipment as needed; wire new equipment installations within high-voltage areas.
  • Precision Measurement: Utilize micrometers, calipers, and tape measures to ensure equipment alignment and functional accuracy.
  • Parts & Research: Utilize vendor catalogs and contacts to research and requisition necessary parts and materials for repairs.
  • Documentation: Use basic computer systems to manage work orders and track maintenance requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience specifically within a manufacturing setting is required.
  • Education: Associates Degree, trade/technical school diploma, or a Journeyman’s card in a related maintenance trade.
  • Technical Reasoning: Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex equipment malfunctions.
  • Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in mathematics, including decimals, fractions, and standard calculations for equipment calibration.
  • Tool Proficiency: Mastery of hand tools, power tools, hoists, cranes, and specialized testing/alignment equipment.
  • Communication: Fluent in English (written and verbal) to effectively coordinate with coworkers and understand customer needs.
  • Computer Skills: Basic proficiency for looking up work orders and interacting with maintenance management programs.
