The Professional Scrub Nurse/Clinical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, and implementation of individualised, holistic, and person-centred nursing care of a patient, their families, or the community, either performed directly or indirectly. The incumbent coordinates patient care within the concept of the multi-disciplinary health team, using scientifically based nursing theories and processes, treating patients as physical, social, and spiritual individuals.
The Scrub Registered Nurse will be responsible for the wellbeing of the patient intra operatively, ensuring delivery of high-quality care in accordance with hospital standards and policies. Responsibilities include:
- Preparation, checking, control, and charging of stock.
- Supervision and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment.
- Completing capital expenditure documentation as per doctor’s preferences.
- Participating in Clinical Governance.

CONSISTENCY OF CARE
- Patient care: Ensure Bill of Materials (picking slips) with correct references is always updated and available. Ensure consignment stock is well controlled and charged. Complete all necessary documentation accurately.
- Research activities: Keep abreast of current research in the discipline.
- Quality assurance: Participate in the theatre’s quality improvement programme and adhere to medical waste management principles.
- Governance, Safety awareness and risk management: Maintain a therapeutic, clean, and safe environment. Co-ordinate with the Clinical Facilitation Department to meet educational needs.

- Build and maintain stakeholder relationships: Work effectively and co-operatively with others to establish good working relationships.
- Resource allocation: Manage acuity and skill mix to ensure appropriate level of care.
