Role Overview

NETbuilder is building an Observability Practice, and this is a foundational senior hire into it. You will join as a senior Dynatrace consultant with a genuine leadership remit β€” helping to shape the practice as it grows while delivering hands-on at its core.

In the near term, this is a hands-on delivery role first and a leadership role second. The majority of your Year 1 will be spent working directly inside enterprise client teams as a senior Dynatrace practitioner β€” designing, deploying and operating real solutions, not directing from a distance. That delivery is how you build the practice's track record and reputation from the ground up. As the team grows the leadership scope broadens, but deep, current Dynatrace delivery expertise remains the foundation of the role.

This is a senior consulting role with real leadership responsibility. You will deliver engagements directly with enterprise clients as a senior Dynatrace practitioner, and line-manage, mentor and develop a growing team of observability consultants as the practice scales.

If you want to build something, not just join something, this is the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Practice Leadership
    • Help define and uphold the Observability Practice delivery standards
    • Build and evolve the practice methodology, toolkits, and quality frameworks
    • Contribute to the practice roadmap and help keep it aligned with market developments and client demand
    • Represent the practice at NETbuilder leadership level and in external forums
    • Track and report on practice performance: utilisation and client satisfaction
    • Drive thought leadership β€” content, events, and industry presence that builds NETbuilder's reputation in observability
    • Lead or contribute to proposals, bids, and pre-sales activities
    • Work with leadership to set and deliver annual targets
  • Client Delivery
    • Deliver Dynatrace engagements as a senior practitioner on enterprise client accounts β€” this is the primary delivery focus in Year 1
    • Design and implement enterprise-grade observability solutions across infrastructure, application, and security domains
    • Own client relationships and delivery outcomes for assigned engagements
    • Act as escalation point and senior technical authority across all practice delivery
    • Support pre-sales with technical scoping, solution design, and client-facing presentations
    • Monitor critical application performance and availability, and lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across enterprise environments
    • Build and maintain Dynatrace dashboards, reports, and alerting that turn telemetry into actionable insight for clients
    • Onboard complex applications and data sources onto the Dynatrace platform
    • Maintain the health and accuracy of Dynatrace deployments and keep deployment documentation current
  • People Management
    • Line-manage a team of observability consultants at various levels of seniority
    • Set objectives, conduct regular 1:1s, and own performance reviews for all direct reports
    • Build and own career development and progression pathways within the practice
    • Mentor junior consultants through certification programmes and early client engagements
    • Identify development needs and coordinate internal and external training activity
    • Create and maintain an inclusive, high-performance culture where people grow and stay
  • Vendor and Partner Relationships
    • Maintain and develop NETbuilder's relationships with key observability platform vendors
    • Stay current with platform capabilities, roadmaps, certifications, and partner programme requirements
    • Pursue and maintain relevant partner competency status and certification requirements for the practice
    • Represent NETbuilder at vendor events and within the wider observability ecosystem

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Dynatrace Professional certification: required β€” held on application or achieved prior to start date
  • Dynatrace delivery experience: 3+ years hands-on experience as a practising Dynatrace consultant
  • Senior consulting experience: demonstrable track record delivering at managing consultant level on enterprise client accounts
  • Practice or team leadership: prior experience leading a team, capability, or practice in a technology professional services environment
  • Commercial awareness: able to track and communicate practice performance to senior stakeholders
  • Observability architecture: strong knowledge of observability patterns across infrastructure, APM, log management, and security analytics

Key Skills

  • Deep Dynatrace platform expertise: full-stack monitoring, APM, infrastructure, log management, security analytics, and automation
  • Broader observability tooling knowledge advantageous: Splunk, Elastic, Datadog, Cribl
  • Application-stack and programming awareness advantageous: Java and/or .NET, web technologies (JavaScript), SQL/relational databases, and distributed/microservices architectures (J2EE, .NET, microservices)
  • Strong client management β€” comfortable with senior stakeholders and able to challenge constructively
  • Direct line management experience in a professional services or consulting environment
  • Resource and capacity planning β€” familiar with utilisation tracking and forecasting
  • Cloud platform knowledge: AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
  • Container and microservices architecture: Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift
  • Scripting and automation: Python, Bash advantageous
  • Familiar with delivery and project tooling: JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow

About You

  • A credible technical leader who commands respect through expertise and character in equal measure
  • Equally comfortable writing a delivery methodology and sitting in a client's engineering team solving a hard problem
  • Energised by building β€” you want to leave a mark on this practice, not just maintain it
  • Committed to developing others: you know the practice grows when the people in it grow
  • Self-managing and commercially minded
  • A natural relationship builder β€” with vendors, with clients, and across NETbuilder
  • Proactive, delivery-focused, and comfortable in a fast-moving environment

How to prepare for a job interview at NETbuilder

✨Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

✨Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

✨Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
