The Presales Solutions Engineer (SE) works directly with NetApp UK sales account teams to build and manage strong technical relationships with key strategic customers. The SE drives the technical relationship strategy, oversees all pre‑sale activities—including presentations, demonstrations, sizing, and solution proposals—and ensures NetApp’s specialist expertise is leveraged when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical lead on focused accounts, developing strategies to increase penetration into UK strategic customers.
- Influence and support channel route‑to‑market initiatives in partnership with peer technologists at partner resellers and service‑integrators.
- Understand customers’ needs, create and articulate solutions to buying centres, and regularly demonstrate the value of emerging technologies.
- Identify new sales opportunities, build pipelines, develop technical solutions, and work through fiscal campaigns to close and win on sustained pipeline.
- Operate technical excellence and discipline, tuning and refining solutions to maximize revenue, and act as the technical authority on final solution proposals.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and development for junior peers within the NetApp UK organisation.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills for presenting in small round‑table events or to larger audiences.
- Strong understanding of modern technologies and competitive offerings in the marketplace, including infrastructure data storage, virtualization, cloud, cloud‑native, finops, devops, AI, data‑protection & recovery.
- Ability to build strong financial and commercial arguments for TCO and procurement methods.
- Experience with target account selling, solution selling, and/or consultative sales techniques.
- Ability to build firm business relationships with customers from technical buyer through to C‑Level executives.
- Experience developing technical account plans that set out strategic initiatives to deliver customer outcomes and drive sales pipeline.
- Willingness to travel to customer and partner sites for face‑to‑face engagements around the UK and occasional international travel.
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in pre‑sales, technical consulting, or professional services.
- Expertise in data storage and data management solutions, including backup and recovery, disaster recovery, cloud storage, and data analytics.
- Prior industry experience with global data‑storage vendors or service providers.
