We’re supporting a growing energy developer delivering grid-scale BESS and energy infrastructure projects across the UK. They’re looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of the commercial and contractual governance across construction works, with a particular focus on Balance of Plant (BoP) and supplier contracts. This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident operating on the employer side, is comfortable challenging claims, and understands how to protect value on complex, funder-backed projects.
You’ll act as the commercial lead across live construction projects, with responsibility for:
- Commercial and contractual management of BoP and related works
- Rigorous assessment and defence of contractor EOT and cost claims
- Administering contracts strictly in line with agreed terms (FIDIC Yellow Book based)
- Preparing clear, evidence-led responses and determinations
- Working closely with project and planning teams on programme and delay matters
- Maintaining strong commercial reporting, audit trails, and funder-facing governance
- Supporting robust cost forecasting from development through to construction and handover
This role suits someone who is commercially tough but professional, and who is comfortable saying no when the contract supports it.
What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience as a Senior QS or Commercial Manager on infrastructure or energy projects
- Strong working knowledge of FIDIC Yellow Book (ideally amended / employer-friendly forms)
- Experience dealing with claims, EOTs, and contractor challenges
- Comfortable working in debt-funded or investor-scrutinised environments
- Naturally detail-driven, organised, and evidence-focused
- Confident operating with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Experience across BESS, substations, HV works, utilities, or complex BoP scopes is highly desirable.
Why this role?
- Genuine ownership of the commercial function on live energy projects
- High-impact role with visibility across delivery and investment stakeholders
- Opportunity to work in a fast-growing part of the energy transition
- A business that values disciplined, contract-led delivery
If you’re a QS who enjoys protecting the employer’s position, challenging weak claims, and working on technically interesting energy infrastructure, this one’s worth a conversation.
