About the NZLA
The Net Zero Lawyers Alliance (NZLA) is a dynamic and fast-paced nonprofit committed to mobilising commercial lawyers, law firms and the law to accelerate the transition to net zero emissions. The NZLA recognises that lawyers have critical expertise required to transform our financial systems to enable/align with the transition to net zero.
We are looking for a Senior Legal Executive to join the NZLA Secretariat. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong legal background and an established professional network to support several of NZLA’s key accelerator groups aimed at removing legal barriers to the transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the design and delivery of targeted workstreams within our accelerator groups, with a focus on competition law, business and human rights law, renewable energy projects and international trade law
- Convening, engaging and managing working groups made up of law firms, financial institutions, NGOs and other stakeholders
- Conducting research and analysis to inform discussions and outputs
- Supporting collaboration across NZLA’s broader membership and partner network
- Contributing to reports, outputs, events and stakeholder engagement linked to NZLA's legal programmes
- Advising on ways to build and expand NZLA’s network and engagement strategies
Skills and Experience
We are looking for a legally trained professional who is passionate about climate action and the role lawyers can play. The ideal candidate will have:
- A background in commercial law, ideally with some exposure to sustainability, ESG, or net zero
- An extensive professional network across law firms, financial institutions, NGOs and other stakeholders related to climate change and net zero
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience convening or coordinating multi-party working groups or projects
- The ability to take initiative, adapt quickly, and contribute meaningfully in a small, agile team
- A proactive, can-do attitude and a collaborative working style
