Why this role
Some mechanical engineering roles keep you close to the detail. This one gives you the chance to shape the bigger picture. If you are ready to move beyond day-to-day design support and take ownership of major aerospace programmes, this is an opportunity to become a visible engineering leader at the forefront of carbon reduction across the UK and Europe. You will join a major engineering services provider with more than $1.5 billion in annual revenue and a team of over 2,000 people across the UK and Europe. Supported by deep technical capability, major investment and significant programme budgets, you will act as a senior engineering presence for a key client, helping lead mechanical engineering delivery across complex aerospace initiatives. Over time, the role is designed to grow into a broader Programme Leader position, making it ideal for someone with the ambition to lead not just engineering activity, but long-term customer strategy and division growth.
What you’ll do
You will lead mechanical engineering activity across high-value aerospace programmes, acting as the trusted link between the client and the wider engineering function. This will involve guiding technical decisions, supporting programme delivery and ensuring engineering output aligns with customer requirements, commercial objectives and the long-term direction of cleaner aerospace technologies. Your remit will go far beyond design review. You will bring structure, pace and leadership to programmes focused on performance improvement, operational efficiency and decarbonisation. That could mean supporting more efficient propulsion-related systems, improving manufacturability, reducing waste, or helping engineering teams deliver solutions that contribute to lower-emission aerospace operations. You will also work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve technical challenges, maintain delivery momentum and strengthen engineering standards across the programme lifecycle.
About the company
Our client is an established engineering services business with an impressive track record across highly regulated and technically demanding sectors. Its aerospace division supports advanced programmes for some of the most respected names in the market, with a strong focus on innovation, operational excellence and long-term partnership. What makes this role stand out is the scale of ambition behind it. The business is investing heavily in aerospace carbon reduction programmes and next-generation engineering capability, giving this position real visibility and influence. With exceptional resource, a substantial delivery budget and a strong leadership platform, this is an environment where capable people can make a lasting mark.
About you
You will bring strong aerospace mechanical engineering experience, ideally with leadership exposure across complex projects, customer relationships or programme delivery. You will be confident guiding engineering teams, making sound technical decisions and communicating credibly with senior stakeholders in demanding environments. You may come from mechanical design, product engineering, manufacturing engineering or programme engineering, but you will already be thinking beyond the technical detail and towards wider leadership. This role will suit someone who wants to combine engineering depth with commercial awareness, client ownership and a clear route into senior programme leadership.
