Imagine being the guardian of safety for a rapidly expanding solar platform, where your expert oversight turns complex regulations into clear, practical action on rooftops and in the boardroom. You thrive on structuring robust health and safety systems, guiding field teams through risk assessments at height and steering incident investigations that drive continuous improvement. If owning a group-wide H&S management system and embedding a safety-first culture excites you, this role was built for your ambition.

Why this role

As our appointed Competent Person under Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, you will set the standards and shape the strategy that protects every colleague from office staff completing DSE assessments to mobile installers working on solar arrays. You’ll translate the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and CDM 2015 into operational policies, so every project runs smoothly and compliantly.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll design and own the group’s H&S management system, defining RAMS frameworks for working at height, electrical installations and fleet operations.
  • You’ll drive risk assessment methodology, conduct serious incident investigations, decide on RIDDOR reportability and liaise directly with insurers and the HSE.
  • Through unannounced audits, toolbox-talk standards and competence matrices (IPAF, PASMA, SMSTS), you’ll embed safe systems of work across all subsidiaries and ensure every site is ready for inspection.

About the company

We are a UK-based solar buy-and-build platform integrating high-quality regional installers into a single, digitally enabled group. With three rapidly scaling subsidiaries and a growing central team, our mission is to accelerate the UK’s transition to smart solar energy. You’ll report to the Founder & Chief of Staff and partner closely with Service Quality, Compliance and Operations leaders to drive safety excellence.

About you

You hold a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) and have owned a health and safety management system across multi-site operations, ideally within construction, M&E or renewables. Your working knowledge of HSWA 1974, MHSWR 1999, Work at Height Regulations 2005, CDM 2015 and RIDDOR is second nature. You are confident leading root-cause investigations, writing clear policy and influencing teams you do not directly manage. A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly are essential.

Rewards & growth

Beyond a competitive salary and hybrid working model, you'll gain clear progression toward Chartered status (GradIOSH/CMIOSH) and the opportunity to shape H&S strategy for a dynamic, high-growth group. Regular site visits and board-level reporting ensure your work has visible impact.
