A fast-growing British electric vehicle manufacturer is looking for a Head of Quality to build the function, not inherit one. Real ownership, from the first build to the finished product in a customer's hands.
Why this role
You will own quality across development, assembly, build and end of line. Your first priority is a new product launch. You will make sure the build process is proven at every stage before it moves on, and put the checks and recording in place so problems show up early and get fixed quickly.
This is a hands-on job. For your first six months you will be on the line and in the detail. Through 2027 you will be a player-manager. From 2028 you will step up as strategic head of function. It is not for someone who wants to sit in a head of role and review reports.
What you'll do
This is low-volume manufacturing, not hundreds of units a day. The product is a genuine mix of mechanical and electrical, the design-to-release cycle is quick and the issues change constantly. You will enjoy learning on the job.
After launch, you will find out where things are going wrong, work with the engineers to get to the real cause, and make sure the fix sticks. You will get more right first time at the end of the line, measure how long things take today, and then make them faster. You will finish building out the quality processes, keep the data clean and shape a practical quality system that fits a growing business, not a corporate one.
You will also own service quality, taking what is learned from customers and the field back into production, suppliers and design. Expect occasional supplier visits in the UK and overseas.
Your team
You will lead a small quality team of engineers and inspectors, with oversight of service quality. It is a team you lead and develop day to day, up close, not from a distance.
About you
If low-volume assembly of products with both mechanical and electrical parts feels familiar, you will fit in fast. That might be vehicles, battery or powertrain, industrial machinery or something else entirely. We want to hear from you.
You will have an engineering degree, a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or above, and ISO 9001 experience. You will have run quality for a new product going onto a line, and personally led a small team. You can show, with numbers, where you made a real difference.
It helps if you have built a quality system from scratch, worked with supplier parts approval or used warranty data to drive fixes. High voltage awareness is a bonus, not a requirement.
Rewards & growth
You get £50,000 to £60,000 + Benefits, and a clear path from hands-on to head of function. Start by the end of January 2027. Full time, permanent.
How to apply
Bring your best examples, with numbers. What did you change, what difference did it make, and how long did it take?
