Multi-Skilled Operative (Roofing) to join a repairs and maintenance team in Durham. This is a varied, hands-on role carrying out roofing repairs alongside a range of multi-skilled maintenance works across domestic and commercial properties. You will work directly in customers' homes and other properties, so a strong focus on quality, safety and customer service is essential. As a Multi-Skilled Operative, you will undertake a variety of repairs and maintenance tasks, with a particular focus on.

  • Carry out minor roofing repairs to flat and pitched roofs.
  • Undertake general multi-skilled property maintenance works.
  • Inspect properties and identify defects or repair requirements.
  • Make good brickwork and complete minor building repairs.
  • Cut and make good chases in walls and floors.
  • Carry out minor joinery repairs where competent.
  • Undertake minor plumbing repairs where competent.
  • Refix or renew ceramic wall and floor tiling where required.
  • Renew concrete screed and vinyl floor tiles where required.
  • Replace single and double glazed panes or units where competent.
  • Install or repair roof-space insulation.
  • Carry out minor painting and decorating works.
  • Undertake cleaning and removal of discarded items or personal effects from properties.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolding and access equipment where appropriately trained.
  • Complete work using PDA/mobile technology and maintain accurate records.
  • Follow construction drawings, specifications, planning and building control requirements where applicable.
  • Carry out formal and dynamic risk assessments.
  • Comply with all health and safety procedures, including COSHH and PPE requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, tenants, colleagues and other teams.
  • Work to agreed targets, deadlines and quality standards.
  • Participate in standby/out-of-hours arrangements where required.
  • Drills and saws.
  • Ladders and scaffolding.
  • Mobile Elevated Work Platforms/access equipment where appropriately trained.
  • PDA/mobile technology for recording and managing work.
  • Appropriate PPE and safety equipment.

Working Environment

This is a physically active role involving work both indoors and outdoors and may require:

  • Working at height.
  • Working from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Manual handling.
  • Working in occupied and vacant properties.
  • Working in different weather conditions.
  • Working within customers' homes and maintaining a professional approach at all times.

You will be expected to work independently, manage your workload effectively and complete work to a high standard while complying with health and safety requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' relevant on-site training/experience.
  • Proven experience within property maintenance, construction or repairs.
  • Strong practical roofing experience, including minor repairs to flat and pitched roofs.
  • Ability to undertake a range of multi-skilled building maintenance tasks.
  • Sound knowledge of building construction, components and associated trades.
  • Ability to work safely at height and from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to undertake formal and dynamic risk assessments.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and organise your own workload.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work to targets and deadlines.
  • Appropriate CSCS card.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Experience working within social housing.
  • Previous experience working in occupied domestic properties.
  • Experience delivering customer-focused repair services.
  • Asbestos Awareness.
  • Manual Handling training.
  • COSHH and PPE training.
  • Working at Height training.
  • Access equipment or Mobile Elevated Work Platform training.
  • Experience using PDA/mobile working technology.
  • Power tool training.
  • Experience investigating building defects.
  • Additional experience in plastering, tiling, plumbing, joinery, painting or flooring.
  • Practical and highly skilled.
  • Reliable and self-motivated.

  • Able to work independently and manage their own workload.
