Job Purpose: The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial and cost management of installation projects delivered under green energy and grant‑funded programmes. The role ensures projects are financially controlled, commercially compliant, and profitable, while supporting accurate reporting, procurement, and payment processes. The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with Site Managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to manage costs, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial & Cost Management
- Manage project costs from award through to final account.
- Prepare budgets, cash flow forecasts, and cost reports.
- Monitor project expenditure against budgets and forecast final costs.
- Identify risks and opportunities to improve project profitability.
- Valuations & Payments
- Prepare and submit interim valuations and payment applications.
- Assess and certify subcontractor payments.
- Manage variations, compensation events, and change control.
- Prepare final accounts and support the commercial close‑out of projects.
- Procurement & Subcontract Management
- Assist with the procurement of materials and subcontractors.
- Review subcontractor quotations and support appointment processes.
- Manage subcontractor accounts, including variations and performance costs.
- Ensure subcontract agreements are commercially compliant.
- Grant & Scheme Compliance
- Support financial compliance for grant‑funded programmes.
- Ensure costs are allocated correctly and backed by appropriate evidence.
- Assist with audits, reconciliations, and scheme reporting requirements.
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure cost capture aligns with delivery.
- Reporting & Administration
- Produce regular cost value reconciliation (CVR) reports.
- Maintain accurate and auditable commercial records.
- Provide clear commercial updates to senior management.
- Support tender pricing and bid submissions where required.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with Site Managers and Project Teams to understand site progress and commercial impacts.
- Liaise with clients, supply chain partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Provide commercial advice and support across the business.
Skills & Experience
- Essential
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor within construction, building services, or retrofit.
- Strong understanding of cost control, valuations, and subcontract management.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Competent in Excel and commercial reporting systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Desirable
- Experience working on grant‑funded or energy‑efficiency projects.
- Knowledge of retrofit, PAS 2030 / PAS 2035, or similar frameworks.
- Experience supporting audits or scheme compliance.
- Relevant degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
- Experience working with domestic or social housing projects.
