ROLE OVERVIEW

We are recruiting for an experienced Carpenter / Multi‑Skilled Operative to join a busy property maintenance team delivering repairs, refurbishments, and retrofit works across residential properties. This role is primarily focused on carpentry, with additional responsibilities across general maintenance and refurbishment works. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high‑quality repairs, void property refurbishments, and retrofit programmes while ensuring excellent customer service and workmanship standards.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent)
  • Valid CSCS Card
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Experience in a carpenter‑biased multi‑skilled role
  • Experience carrying out first and second fix carpentry works
  • Experience working within repairs, maintenance, or void property environments
  • Ability to participate in a 7‑day rota and out‑of‑hours service when required
  • Experience within social housing or residential property maintenance is highly desirable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CARPENTRY WORKS

  • Install, repair, and adjust doors, including fire doors where required
  • Fit and repair skirting boards, architraves, flooring, and joists
  • Install and repair kitchen units and associated fixtures
  • Fit locks, hinges, and ironmongery
  • Deliver high‑quality carpentry works with a strong focus on finish and durability

VOID PROPERTY REFURBISHMENT

  • Complete full and partial void property refurbishments
  • Carry out strip‑out, repair, and reinstatement works
  • Work collaboratively with other trades to ensure properties meet lettable standards

MULTI‑SKILLED MAINTENANCE

  • Undertake basic plumbing repairs including replacing taps and repairing leaks
  • Carry out minor plastering and making‑good works
  • Complete general maintenance and repair tasks across residential properties
  • Support both planned and reactive maintenance programmes

RETROFIT & DAMP WORKS

  • Assist with retrofit improvement projects
  • Install loft and underfloor insulation
  • Carry out preparation and reinstatement works following insulation installation
  • Support damp and mould remediation programmes

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Work professionally within occupied and void properties
  • Communicate effectively with residents, tenants, and stakeholders
  • Ensure work areas remain safe, clean, and tidy at all times

HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Follow all health and safety procedures and safe systems of work
  • Complete risk assessments and job documentation accurately
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building and fire safety regulations

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong first and second fix carpentry experience
  • High‑quality workmanship and attention to detail
  • Excellent problem‑solving and fault‑finding abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Experience delivering right‑first‑time repairs and installations

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Fire door installation and maintenance experience (FD30 / FD60)
  • Kitchen and bathroom installation experience
  • Retrofit and insulation programme experience
  • Knowledge of PAS‑aligned retrofit environments
  • Basic plumbing and plastering skills
  • Experience dealing with damp and mould remediation
