Role Overview

We are supporting the recruitment of a CAD Technician to join a district heating and energy networks team based in Bolton. This role would suit a 2nd or 3rd year student, recent graduate, or early‑career CAD professional with some relevant experience. You will support the production and coordination of technical drawings for district heating systems, helping with the design and delivery of low‑carbon energy infrastructure projects. This is a good opportunity for someone looking to develop within a growing technical sector, with exposure to real projects and support from experienced engineers and designers.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce and develop accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for district heating networks and energy centres
  • Design and refine pipework layouts, routing and associated system components
  • Work independently on drawing packages with minimal supervision, using project briefs and engineering input
  • Interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings and design information
  • Update, revise and manage drawing revisions in line with project requirements
  • Maintain accurate design documentation and drawing registers
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers and site teams to support design coordination
  • Support clash detection, design coordination and model reviews
  • Ensure drawings meet relevant industry standards and company procedures

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD 3D
  • Some industry experience, or currently studying a relevant engineering or CAD‑related degree
  • 2nd or 3rd year students are preferred
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings and engineering layouts
  • Good IT skills and the ability to learn new software quickly
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English, Grade 4/C or above
  • Experience using Autodesk Revit, either 2D or 3D
  • Previous exposure to district heating, energy networks or building services design
  • Interest in renewable energy and low‑carbon infrastructure
  • Experience working in a consultancy or engineering environment

  • Pay: £30,000 to £45,000 per year, depending on experience
