We are seeking an experienced, dedicated Deputy Manager to join our team within a residential children’s home. As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day‑to‑day running of the home, ensuring high standards of care, strong safeguarding practice, and a supportive culture for staff and young people alike. You will play a key role in shaping positive outcomes, developing the team, and ensuring compliance, accountability, and a child‑centred practice approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the operational leadership and management of the home.
- Promote, safeguard, and protect the welfare of each young person in accordance with Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018).
- Oversee care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour management strategies.
- Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with young people.
- Manage challenging behaviour through positive and responsive methods.
- Participate in the development and review of personalised care packages.
- Support young people in reviews, meetings, and appointments.
- Promote healthy lifestyles, independence, and social development.
- Ensure the home provides a warm, homely environment and support activities and routines.
- Maintain accurate, compliant record-keeping.
- Support staff supervision, mentoring, development, and rota planning.
- Promote children’s rights, dignity, diversity, and inclusion.
What We’re Looking For
- At least one year’s experience working with vulnerable children in a residential or childcare setting.
- At least one year’s experience in a senior or leadership role within residential childcare.
- Flexibility to work within a 24/7/365 service, including weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in duties.
- Ability to work independently with accuracy and maintain clear, organised records.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive team approach.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer competence (e.g., Word).
- A caring, empathetic nature and genuine passion for supporting young people.
- Ability to mentor, motivate, and role-model appropriate behaviour.
- Willingness to undertake a full training programme.
- Successful applicants will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check and employment reference checks.
- Applicants must be 21 or older in line with legislative requirements (Employment Equality Act 2010 & Age Regulations Act 2006).
