Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join the team at our Confectionery Factory in York. The team's short term and long-term goals include introducing a long-term maintenance strategy and continually developing it. Increasing asset intensity and reducing stops, working towards being the best maintenance team in the UK.

The Maintenance Engineer Role is a specialist role within the engineering management team. Nestlé York Factory in North Yorkshire is the home of the iconic confectionary brands; KitKat, Aero and Yorkie amongst several other well‑known brands such as Polo and Buttons. These are produced through controlled process plant and automated filling and packaging lines.

Your Impact

As the Maintenance Engineer your key objectives will be to identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant performance. Using Nestlé’s factory systems, you will analyse data to identify unreliable equipment and strive to improve reliability through continuous improvement projects, implementation of TPM stream methodologies and root cause analysis. Across the departmental assets you will implement the factory maintenance strategy.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Implementation of the area’s MWG (maintenance working group) plan and participate in line improvements across the manufacturing facility
  • Participate in maintenance routines and support the implementation of maintenance standards, focusing on high-quality execution
  • Drive, coach, and own departmental root cause analysis to reduce stoppages and recurrence
  • Adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practice standards in respect of plant, tools and environment
  • Support and challenge your colleagues to maintain all company standards
  • Ensure compliance with the Nestlé quality policy particularly engineering change management and line release
  • Become a specialist in PM stream methodologies and implement across all machines in the department
  • Play a key role in TPM expansion throughout the factory by coaching and mentoring technicians, craft, apprentices, and operators to enable them to become autonomous
  • Become the specialist knowledge holder for process specific equipment
  • Support 14 indirect reports

You will report directly to the Asset Maintenance Manager working closely with the maintenance planners and maintenance technicians to implement a strategy and robust maintenance plan for assets throughout the factory to increase reliability and improve asset intensity.

Ingredients for Success

  • Relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 Qualifications in Engineering Maintenance or equivalent).
  • HNC, HND and/or BEng Degree desirable
  • SAP knowledge evidencing the ability to maintain maintenance plans and schedules
  • Proven track record working with automated processes and PLC’s
  • Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment, preferably within the food/fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry
  • Knowledge of asset maintenance
  • Ability to coach across all levels and work on own initiative
