Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced SHE Manager to join the team here at Nestlé Purina factory in Sudbury. At Purina PetCare, we are passionately committed to helping pets enjoy happier, healthier, and longer lives because we are pet owners too. Our Sudbury factory employs a workforce of 200, producing some of the UK's most popular brands, including Go-Cat, Bakers, Purina ONE, BETA, and Pro Plan. This ancient market town, nestled in the heart of the Stour Valley, is surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, making Sudbury an ideal place for animal lovers. Additionally, London is just a 45-minute train ride away from nearby Colchester.
Manufacturing at Nestlé focuses on delivering perfect quality products to consumers at the right time and place while minimizing losses to maximize efficiency and productivity. This is particularly critical as we continue our journey towards becoming a LEAN Enterprise, representing the most significant change in our operations globally. A day in the life of a SHE Manager
The main purpose of the SHE Manager is to provide specialist advice to line managers regarding the management of Health, Safety and Environment in the Factory.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Create a compelling understanding of the Nestlé SHE values and inspire stakeholders to excel in compliance & continuously improve.
- Identify SHE priorities, current & future challenges, and opportunities for change at site level.
- Guide implementation of the Environmental Management System and other Market SHE Standards.
- Develop and continuously improve site SHE programmes to deliver compliance and performance improvement.
- Ensure the local Safety, Health and Environment management system maintains certification to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Provide training and coaching to managers and team leaders to help them take ownership, lead and manage SHE within their area of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance is regularly audited and performance assessed, and the results used to drive further improvement.
- Engage with external stakeholders (trades unions, local regulators, local communities, and local NGOs) on SHE topics to build long term, positive relationships.
- Security Champion working closely with the Market Security Manager focusing on our Third Party Security Activities and ensuring Compliance.
What will make you successful
To be considered for this brilliant opportunity, the following criteria will be desirable unless otherwise stated:
- You will have a NEBOSH Health and Safety Diploma or equivalent - Essential.
- Ideally educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a technical subject area - Preferred.
- Previous SHE experience within FMCG/ Food Manufacturing - Preferred.
- Detailed knowledge of the requirements of ISO45001 and ISO14001.
- Experience leading internal audits and liaising with external regulatory bodies.
- You will have a real passion for SHE and continuous improvement.
- Experience taking ownership of SHE and supporting change through personal leadership.
- Analysed complex problems to identify multiple root causes.
- Influenced behavioural change in a team/department.
- Worked in and led, cross-functional teams.
- Translated policies & standards into practical action plans.
- Coached individuals and teams in different environments.
- Previous experience as a line or project manager.
- Worked in operational environment.
- Communicated effectively with different organisational levels.
- Proactive approach to anticipate issues or improve current practices.
