We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Senior Welding Engineer who will be responsible for the operational welding governance ensuring that it meets the accreditation to the required standards.
Technical
- Project Welding Technical Review, lead and advise on all technical requirements pertaining to contract including (but not limited to) weld design, in-service performance, ease of manufacture, code and standard requirements and inspection requirements.
- Investigating and evaluating emerging technologies and consumables to further enhance Welding capabilities in line with business.
Welding Management Systems & Compliance
- Develop and manage the Welding Quality Management System and ensure alignment with the required standards.
- Act as the primary contact for welding-related inquiries, developing Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for projects.
- Maintain periodic welder qualifications and coordinate subcontractor approvals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Project & Product Quality Assurance/Control
- Support project-specific QA/QC needs, ensuring alignment with ISO 9001 and contractual requirements.
- Oversee the database of WPS, WPQR, and WPQ and manage site audits for welder activities and subcontractor QA/QC.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for weld failures and contribute to process improvements.
Management System Policy and Framework
- Establish weld management frameworks and policies, integrating AE Group requirements.
- Ensure weld processes meet legislative, code, and regulatory standards and maintain up-to-date documentation.
Documentation Control & Maintenance
- Control and maintain welding documentation within the management framework, ensuring currency, approval, and periodic review.
- Provide expertise for product verification documentation and coordinate with customer representatives for welding inspection requirements.
Certification, Approvals, and Audits
- Manage all welding certifications, ensuring they are embedded within the management systems.
- Conduct and document audit schedules based on risk, ensuring all requirements are met and improvements are implemented.
Standards, Codes, Legislation
- Maintain processes to ensure welding documentation is controlled, managed, and updated per applicable standards.
Essential qualifications
- Degree qualified or equivalent in relevant engineering subject.
- 5+ years in either Nuclear or Aerospace/Defence/Oil & Gas sector as a Welding Engineer.
- Recognised Welding Qualification: EWT or EWE.
- Demonstrable experience of product audit/verification of welding process and associated records (Essential).
- Demonstrable working knowledge of the main welding processes typically used for high integrity applications within a heavy engineering environment and familiarity with associated national and international codes and specification.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of EN ISO 3834 and EN 1090.
- Member or recognised institution (The Welding Institute).
- Ability to interpret Engineering Customer Specifications and define Welding requirements in terms of Design, LQR needs, acceptance criteria, qualifications and approvals, Processes/procedures, Verification and Validation methods, Inspection and Test and resource needs.
- Knowledge and application of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and PowerPoint.
