Overview
Role: Production Manager — Permanent, Christchurch
Lead and manage the end-to-end production process from component receipt, inspection, assembly, testing, calibration, and packing, ensuring projects are delivered on time, in full. Hands-on role overseeing a workshop team, coordinating with supply chain, projects, and engineering, while maintaining health, safety, and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Deliver production projects to schedule and budget
- Plan and coordinate resources across departments
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and resolve non-conformances
- Lead, mentor, and develop the workshop team, including apprentices
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, tooling, and equipment
- Promote a positive, collaborative team culture
- Manage risks, appraisals, training, and disciplinary matters
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Leadership of teams (5-10 people) in a workshop or manufacturing environment
- Mechanical & electrical assembly knowledge
- Proven track record delivering multiple projects on time
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Communication across all levels, financial awareness, IT literate
- Able to read engineering drawings and Bills of Materials
Desirable:
- Experience in metals, industrial, or high-precision manufacturing
- Knowledge of stock control, planning, procurement, or site installation
- ISO environment experience, overhead crane/forklift operation
- willingness to travel for commissioning or start-up activities
Education
- Formal Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification
- Minimum 3 years in a similar leadership role; 5 years in engineering
- Additional flexibility for travel and working outside normal hours
