NES Fircroft is supporting a power-cabling organisation in sourcing suitable candidates for the position of Health and Safety Advisor for a flagship interconnection.

Location: Kent

Contract position

Role Purpose

The Health & Safety Advisor will operate across both departmental and project-specific reporting lines, providing professional HSE guidance throughout the onshore installation works carried out by the business and its subcontractors. The successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive approach, including frequent participation in site safety inspections, audits, and regular attendance at project HSE meetings. The organisation is acting as the Principal Contractor under UK CDM Regulations.

Project Activities Include

  • Establishment of site facilities
  • Installation of boundary and demarcation fencing
  • Creation of access routes and entry points to the construction corridor
  • Trial hole excavation for joint bay locations
  • Topsoil removal
  • Construction of haul roads
  • Building road and ditch crossings
  • Proving pits and access to HDD entry/exit points
  • Duct proving, cleaning, and remedial works
  • Joint bay excavation
  • Final duct cleaning prior to cable installation
  • Installation of power and fibre cables
  • Cable jointing, splicing, and progressive testing
  • Reinstatement works and removal of temporary fencing
  • Site demobilisation

Candidate Requirements

  • A nationally recognised Health & Safety qualification (NEBOSH, NVQ, NCRQ or equivalent)
  • Valid CSCS or CCNSG card
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a Health & Safety Advisor role
  • Auditor certification to ISO 45001
  • Training in incident/accident investigation and root-cause analysis
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD as an HSE professional
  • IOSH membership
  • Previous HSE advisory experience within renewable energy, HVDC, or transmission projects
  • Strong competence in onshore civil engineering and energy-sector construction activities
  • Experience working for a Principal Contractor under UK CDM Regulations
  • Thorough understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Skilled in ALARP risk-management principles
  • Confident in producing project-specific HSE plans, procedures, and documentation
  • Comfortable engaging with clients, managing tiered contractors, and leading small teams
  • Proactive, self-driven, and able to work independently
  • Ideally, previous experience on National Grid projects
  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK
