We are seeking a Fluids Engineer to join a leading engineering business specialising in metallurgical plant solutions. This role is responsible for designing and delivering fluid system elements within industrial projects, ensuring work meets required technical, safety, budget, and schedule targets while collaborating closely with project teams, suppliers, and clients.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produce and review compliant and cost-effective engineering documentation, including block diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, calculations, bills of materials, and technical manuals.
- Act as the technical focal point for fluids systems within project teams, supporting delivery of projects to schedule and budget.
- Ensure designs meet company procedures, statutory obligations, and relevant industry standards.
- Participate in design reviews, safety reviews, and risk assessments.
- Support the manufacture, testing, installation, and commissioning of equipment to ensure alignment with design specifications.
- Attend inspection, testing, and commissioning activities at supplier and customer sites where required.
- Support the proposals process, producing technical specifications, scopes of supply, and equipment cost estimates.
- Develop strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to support successful project delivery.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential:
- The Fluids engineer should have a good understanding of the requirements of heavy industry turn key projects.
- Fluids basic and detailed design skills, able to work alone or in groups to produce innovative, robust designs, built with both manufacture and operation in mind and suited to the harsh environment they will operate in.
- Design calculation ability, usually with Microsoft Excel required.
- IT literate with all department and business system tools, especially AutoCad.
- Working knowledge of environmental, health & safety and technical regulations.
Desirable:
- Advanced 3D CAD skills (Preferably Autodesk Inventor, CADWorx, Siemens NX).
- Problem solving and analytical thinking advantageous.
- Experience in heavy industry, preferably in Fluids Design Engineering role.
- Experience of project engineering and the project lifecycle from contract award through to installation/commissioning from a specific disciplined engineering view.
- Experience of iron & steel industry advantageous.
- Membership of the relevant professional institution would be preferred.
