Role Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with proven experience in primary or secondary substation design to support ongoing transmission and distribution projects. The role involves delivering high-quality technical designs, ensuring compliance with UK standards, and contributing to project milestones within a fast-paced engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed designs for primary or secondary substation systems, including layouts, SLDs, schematics, and protection/control arrangements
  • Develop equipment specifications, cable calculations, earthing designs, and interface documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with DNO/TSO standards, BS/IEC regulations, and project-specific requirements
  • Support design reviews, technical assurance processes, and multidisciplinary coordination
  • Provide technical input across project stages from concept through to construction support

Requirements

  • Strong background in primary or secondary electrical design within transmission, distribution, or utility sectors
  • HNC/HND or degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Proficiency with relevant design tools (AutoCAD, EPlan, ETAP, DigSILENT or similar)
  • Understanding of protection schemes, substation layouts, and system integration
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with occasional site visits

Contract Details

  • 6-month contract with potential for extension
  • Inside IR35 via Umbrella or PAYE
  • Hybrid working model with expenses covered for approved travel
  • Must have working Visa for the UK
