An excellent opportunity to start a career in finance within cost control. Supporting the Finance team, you’ll assist with cost monitoring and reporting across Operations, Projects, Wells and Decommissioning. This is a development role with structured progression into a Cost Controller position, working closely with operational and engineering teams under senior guidance. A leading independent energy operator with a strong presence in the UK, focused on getting the most out of existing assets through efficient, well-managed operations. Working across production, projects, wells and decommissioning, the business offers a fast-paced environment where cost awareness, teamwork and practical problem-solving are key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support cost control across multiple business areas
  • Extract and analyse cost data from ERP systems
  • Assist with monthly reporting (actuals, accruals, forecasts)
  • Track commitments, purchase orders and invoices
  • Review and process requisitions, invoices and service entry sheets
  • Support time writing and cost allocation processes
  • Monitor cost variances and maintain cost breakdown structures
  • Assist with project cost tracking from approval to close-out
  • Contribute to process improvements and best practices

Development & Progression

  • Structured pathway into a Cost Controller role
  • Exposure across full asset lifecycle cost control
  • Training and support towards finance qualifications (AAT/CIMA)
  • Increasing responsibility as experience develops
