Technical Expertise – HVDC Construction
- Demonstrates an understanding of HVDC converter station components, including valve halls, transformers, reactors, harmonic filters, GIS, cooling systems, and control buildings.
- Interprets complex engineering drawings, specifications, and standards with accuracy.
- Applies knowledge of IEC, EN, BS, and utility-specific HVDC standards to ensure compliance across all construction activities.
- Evaluates installation methods, tolerances, and construction sequencing to ensure technical integrity.
Quality Management and Assurance
- Develops and implements project quality plans, inspection and test plans, and quality control procedures.
- Conducts audits of contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers, identifying non-conformances and ensuring effective corrective actions.
- Ensures all materials, equipment, and installations meet required certifications and acceptance criteria.
- Maintains robust quality documentation, ensuring traceability and readiness for commissioning and energisation.
Risk Identification and Problem Solving
- Identifies quality-related risks early and implements mitigation strategies.
- Leads root-cause analysis for defects, installation issues, or process failures.
- Makes sound, timely decisions to protect construction quality and project outcomes.
- Anticipates potential issues and proactively implements preventive measures.
Leadership and Contractor Oversight
- Provides clear direction to contractors and subcontractors on quality expectations and requirements.
- Influences behaviours and promotes a culture of “right-first-time” execution.
- Coaches teams on quality standards, inspection readiness, and best practices.
- Holds contractors accountable for quality performance and compliance.
Communication and Stakeholder Management
- Acts as the primary point of contact for all quality-related matters with EPC contractors, OEMs, client representatives, and regulatory bodies.
- Communicates complex technical issues clearly and constructively.
- Facilitates quality coordination meetings and ensures alignment across all project partners.
- Prepares concise, accurate quality reports for project leadership.
Documentation and Reporting Discipline
- Ensures all inspection records, test results, NCR logs, and as-built documentation are complete, accurate, and auditable.
- Supports commissioning teams by ensuring all pre-commissioning quality deliverables are met.
- Maintains high standards of document control and traceability.
Safety, Compliance, and Integrity
- Ensures all quality activities align with project safety requirements and CDM regulations.
- Demonstrates high ethical standards and integrity in all decision-making.
- Promotes safe working practices and ensures quality processes do not compromise safety.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related discipline) or equivalent experience preferred or relevant experience.
- 5+ years of quality management experience in major power infrastructure projects.
- Experience with HVDC, substations, or high-voltage transmission projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Proven experience managing quality within EPC or multi-contractor environments.

- Timely completion of inspections, tests, and documentation.
