System Safety Design Engineer Main Responsibilities Support system safety activities across major rail infrastructure projects.

Undertake hazard identification and risk assessment activities.

Develop and maintain Hazard Records and associated safety documentation.

Support the preparation and delivery of Safety Cases and Safety Justifications.

Carry out safety assessments including FTA, FMEA and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA).

Work closely with design, systems, engineering and assurance teams to ensure safety requirements are embedded throughout the project lifecycle.

Support compliance with applicable railway safety standards and project safety management plans.

Participate in safety reviews, audits and assurance activities.

Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis where required.

Produce technical reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements Degree qualified Engineer or equivalent technical qualification.

Knowledge of UK railway standards and safety management processes.

Experience in a Systems Safety, Safety Assurance, Functional Safety or RAMS Engineering role.

Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment and safety assurance processes.

Experience developing or contributing to Safety Cases.

Working knowledge of FTA, FMEA and PHA methodologies.

Experience within rail, transportation, infrastructure or other highly regulated engineering environments.

Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Strong technical writing and stakeholder communication skills.

Membership of a relevant professional body would be advantageous.

Desirable Experience High-speed rail experience (HS2) Experience working on complex infrastructure or transportation projects.

Experience supporting design assurance and systems integration activities.
