NES Fircroft is recruiting for a Site EHS Advisor with a global industry leader in energy technology, working on several major substation and grid upgrade projects across the UK.
Location: Edinburgh. Duration: 12 months. Outside IR35.
Role: Site EHS Advisors provide operational EHS support to the Site Manager and site organisation. They lead visible and active EHS efforts, championing zero harm, environmental protection, a sustainable future, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Dispatch Phase - Verify that hazardous substances and chemicals are stored appropriately. Ensure chemical assessments are available at the point of storage.
- Construction / Installation / Commissioning Phases
- Site Inspection – ensure all required notices are posted, initiate fire risk assessments, obtain missing or ad-hoc EHS equipment.
- Site Mobilisation – ensure the Construction Phase Plan, TMP, ERP and RAMS/Permits are available, set up EHS project folders, establish project EHS Safety Representatives, publish and upload minutes.
- Safe Systems of Work – ensure all personnel have read and signed relevant documentation, identify non-routine tasks not covered by generic documentation, provide technical EHS comments on contractor risk assessments and method statements.
- EHS Site Registrations / Inductions – follow induction processes, complete inductions before work begins, control, issue and track visitor PPE, maintain EHS folders.
- Competencies & Training – verify valid certification, deliver site inductions, record them, deliver project-specific EHS training and toolbox talks.
- Site Rules – set up and operate project initiatives and programs, monitor compliance, and raise non-conformance.
- Communications – implement safety communications, organise monthly Safety Representative forums, roll out general safety campaigns.
- EHS Management of Subcontractors – monitor subcontractor work against accepted RAMS, report non-compliance to Site Management or EHS leadership.
- Monitoring and Assessment – conduct routine and non-routine inspections, record outputs, report unsafe acts or conditions, log in reporting tools.
- Safety Observations & Incident Management – receive and review safety observations and incidents, enter observations into reporting tools.
- Investigations – gather information for accidents, complete initial incident risk assessments, conduct root-cause investigations, complete reporting workflows, provide corrective action feedback.
- Emergency Response Arrangements – display emergency response plan, communicate contacts during induction, facilitate drills, monitor emergency equipment.
- Reporting – develop and issue weekly EHS site reports, notify EHS incidents to the PM, SM and Client as required.
- EHS Documentation Records – compile and archive all documentation throughout the project life cycle.
- Project Closure – finalize archiving of project documents, ensure closure of incident workflows.
