Senior Reservoir Engineer

  • Purpose of the Role
  • Reservoir Engineer within the UKBU Operated by Others (OBO) multidisciplinary subsurface team.
  • Deliver opportunities for production enhancement and resource additions by influencing operators and joint venture partners, underpinned by robust subsurface technical work.
  • Responsible for multiple assets across the OBO portfolio.

Key Responsibilities Areas of Accountability

  • Provide subsurface decision support for non-operated assets, framing key decisions, identifying critical uncertainties, and providing clear recommendations to management.
  • Provide independent technical assurance and challenge of operator evaluations, focusing on uncertainties and assumptions material to value and decision quality.
  • Develop and maintain an independent technical position through integrated subsurface evaluation.
  • Build technical alignment between the company, operators, and co-venturers to enable effective decision-making and maximise asset value.
  • Define and deliver reservoir engineering work programmes in support of business strategy across multiple assets.
  • Identify, mature, and influence operators to deliver opportunities for production enhancement and resource growth.
  • Maintain production forecasts in support of mid and long-term business plans.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Interface with and leverage technical expertise to influence subsurface team priorities and work programmes.
  • Represent the company at external joint venture workshops, subsurface workgroups, and technical committee meetings.
  • Daily Activities
  • Develop technical recommendations to support subsurface, asset, and investment decisions.
  • Generate production forecasts to support key business decisions using appropriate techniques, including analogue analysis, decline curve analysis (DCA), material balance, and simulation models.
  • Review, challenge, and assure operator reservoir engineering evaluations and recommendations.
  • Analyse and integrate production, pressure, fluid, and surveillance data to identify opportunities, risks, and key uncertainties.
  • Evaluate production enhancement and new well opportunities.
  • Perform reserves assessments.
  • Monitor and support specialists and contractors managing reservoir engineering projects.
  • Provide reservoir engineering input to internal and external business approvals, partner engagements, and technical committee meetings.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices across teams.
  • Participate in the emergency response rota if required by the position.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience Technical Experience

  • Fully developed reservoir engineering skillset.
  • Proven expertise in delivering complex reservoir engineering projects incorporating uncertainty analysis.
  • Recognised specialist in multiple reservoir engineering disciplines, with a strong understanding of how technology supports business objectives.

  • Strong track record of influencing technical and business decisions within multidisciplinary and joint venture environments.
  • Ability to integrate subsurface, wells, facilities, operational, commercial, and economic considerations into technical recommendations.
  • Sound working knowledge of industry-standard reservoir engineering software packages.
