Senior HSSE Advisor

Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) | Teesside | Permanent

An exciting opportunity to join the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) and play a key role in the UK’s carbon capture and storage industry.

NEP is developing critical infrastructure to transport and store CO₂ emissions beneath the North Sea, supporting the development of carbon capture and storage in the UK. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Health, Safety, Security & Environmental (HSSE) Advisor to join the team in Teesside, supporting construction, operational activities and future project development across onshore and offshore assets. Reporting to the HSSE Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to influence safety culture, provide trusted technical advice and help shape HSSE systems and standards as the business continues to develop.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing practical HSSE advice and constructive challenge to project teams, contractors and senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development and continuous improvement of HSSE management systems, policies and procedures.
  • Carrying out site inspections, audits and assurance activities, ensuring risks are managed and actions are closed out.
  • Supporting risk assessments, incident investigations and the sharing of lessons learned.
  • Reviewing contractor HSSE performance and supporting safe project delivery.
  • Contributing to emergency response planning, exercises and business continuity arrangements.
  • Advising on relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, including COMAH, environmental permitting and CDM where applicable.
  • Building strong relationships across the business and deputising for the HSSE Manager when required.

What we’re looking for

  • A recognised HSSE qualification, such as a NEBOSH Certificate, alongside a relevant degree, equivalent qualification or demonstrable industry experience.
  • Substantial HSSE advisory experience in a high-hazard, regulated, construction, project or operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HSSE management systems, risk management, auditing and incident investigation.
  • A good understanding of relevant UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage at all levels.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Experience in carbon capture and storage, oil and gas, chemicals, refining, utilities or other major-hazard industries would be particularly beneficial. Knowledge of COMAH, environmental permitting, CDM and emergency response arrangements would also be advantageous.

Why NEP?

This is an opportunity to join a major energy infrastructure project at an important stage of its development, contribute to the safe delivery of critical UK infrastructure and help shape HSSE standards across a developing carbon capture and storage business.
