NES Fircroft is working with a global engineering company that is seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join their team in Teesside.
You will be responsible for executing and coordinating structural and civil engineering projects, collaborating with local and international design teams, as well as in-house resources. Your role includes developing Pre-Project and Project design strategies, focusing on execution, productivity, technical output, resource management, progress tracking, standardization, health and safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Produce, monitor, and verify that technically compliant and cost-effective design documentation, including drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations, and manuals, meet project requirements, company procedures, statutory obligations, and national standards.
- Act as the technical lead for Civil & Structural aspects within project teams to ensure successful and commercially viable project execution, including monitoring budgets, progress, and change management.
- Participate in design and safety reviews, risk assessments, and other project evaluations.
- Complete structural calculations and review the work of others, especially in advanced calculations and analysis.
- Understand civil design principles and review engineering outputs accordingly.
- Ensure structures are manufactured, tested, and installed in accordance with design and operational requirements.
- Advise clients on construction methodologies and best installation practices, adhering to local and international standards.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to facilitate successful project delivery and future business opportunities.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Degree in engineering or equivalent qualification (HNC/HND considered with relevant experience).
- Membership of a relevant professional institution is preferred.
- Experience in the iron & steel industry is advantageous.
- Previous experience in heavy industry, especially in civil or structural design engineering.
- Strong understanding of heavy industry turnkey project requirements.
- Proficient in structural basic and detailed design, capable of producing innovative and robust designs suited for manufacturing and operation in harsh environments.
- Ability to perform design calculations, preferably using MathCAD or Microsoft Excel.
- Basic CAD skills, preferably Autodesk; training available depending on experience.
- Knowledge of environmental, health & safety regulations and technical standards.
- Experience in coordinating large work packages with international design centers, with the ability to review design concepts.
- Ideally, advanced 3D CAD skills, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
