This role will be construction site based and is responsible for conducting all site-based project related activities within the Environmental scope. He/she shall analyse and consider the requirements of the contract and support the other project members in all topics regarding Environment. The chosen candidate is responsible for developing and implementing Project site based Environmental Plans as per the contract, client standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Act as the Environmental representative on site taking a proactive approach to the environmental management of the site.
  • Promote environmental best practice across site operations.
  • Provide environmental advice and support to site based personnel to ensure sufficient understanding of project environmental requirements and environmental processes relevant to the scope of work.
  • Conduct audits / checks on compliance.
  • Address gaps and suggest improvements relating to management systems and processes.
  • Highlight where environmental requirements are not being met and elevate or intervene to stop work if necessary.
  • For relevant environmental incidents, deviations or non-compliances, initiate root cause analysis and promote that the business takes appropriate remedial and corrective actions.

Main Tasks

  • Develop and implement site environmental program (including site inspections and site ecological surveys, water monitoring etc).
  • Support the application for site environmental licenses or consents e.g. EPS, CAR).
  • Monitor compliance with all environmental and nature conservation mitigation works; working practices identified in consents/ licenses, CES, CEMP, and the contractors environmental management systems.
  • Provide training to ensure works are undertaken in strict accordance with environmental requirements defined in consents/ licenses, CES, CEMP.
  • Regularly visit site operations to monitor performance / compliance and give support.
  • Deliver Tool Box Talks on relevant environmental risks and control measures.
  • Be involved in planning the project works in a pro-active way to avoid Environment incidents and to ensure compliance.
  • Lead or support investigations into environmental incidents or deviations to determine the root cause and suitable corrective / preventative actions.
  • Review of subcontractors environment documentation.
  • Review and provide environmental input into RAMS.
  • Attend applicable client and contractor meetings.
  • Act as the Client interface regarding Environmental management on site.
  • Accompany clients and/or clients representatives on site as necessary.
  • Attendance at stakeholder meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain site environmental records as per the businesses processes, client and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring, reporting and analyses of environmental performance indicators (e.g. waste, fuel use, water quality, nonconformities, incidents etc.) according to processes and client requirements.
  • Record positive and negative environmental observations in the IA system.
  • Development and communication of any environmental lessons learnt.

Qualifications

  • Degree / diploma or equivalent in Environment and / or Ecology.
  • Hold a valid CSCS or CCNSG Card (or have the ability to get one).
  • At least 5 years’ experience as an ECoW / Advisor.
  • Hold membership with the Association of ECOW’s as an associate member (desirable).
  • Have active Continual Professional Development as an ECoW / Advisor.
  • Previously held ECoW positions on HVDC / Renewable Energy projects.
  • Fully conversant with UK Environmental legislation and consenting requirements.
  • Competent in ensuring compliance with Environmental Plans and Procedures at a site level.
  • Must be client facing and feel comfortable monitoring tier contractors.
  • Must be proactive, self-motivated and work well in a team.
  • Competent in the English language and Microsoft Office.
