NES Fircroft are recruiting an Occupational Hygienist for a major Oil and Gas Operator on an initial 2 year contract. This is a great opportunity for someone with 1+ years experience to join their dedicated QSSHE team where you will be responsible for the delivery of the Occupational Hygiene program. This is a Mon-Fri, 37.5hrs per week role based in the Norwich office with occasional visits to operational sites.

The successful candidate will complete a structured Occupational Hygiene development programme, which is designed to support progression towards the BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene.

Overview: The role will support the delivery of the Occupational Hygiene and Human Factors programme across the client's Southern North Sea operations, helping to anticipate, recognise, evaluate and control workplace health risks across the organisation. A key aspect of the role will be driving the continual improvement and standardisation of monitoring, auditing and reporting systems. While this is a development position, it carries a significant level of responsibility and business impact. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring compliance with relevant statutory provisions, codes of practice and industry guidelines. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Health & Safety and committed to promoting best practice through effective workforce engagement and education.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with medic/HSEAs and operational teams to review Health Risk Assessments, identifying the hazard category, hazard, health impact, route of entry and required exposure monitoring/health surveillance program required.
  • Hazardous Substance Management and associated COSHH risk assessments.
  • Chemical workplace exposure monitoring for example: Natural gas condensate - benzene and other aromatic hydrocarbons e.g toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, as well as Mercury, lead, chromium III & VI, solvents, cement-based products, welding fume, toxic gases.
  • Asbestos Management and associated surveys, registers including material and priority risk assessment scores and assessment of exposure.
  • Noise Management and associated surveys, and assessment of exposure.
  • Vibration Management, tool tagging/registers and assessment of exposure.
  • Ionising and non-ionising radiation management and associated local rules and assessment of contamination/exposure.
  • Thermal hazard assessment, Potable water management, Food borne pathogens, Communicable diseases, Mould & Spores, Animal and insect hazards, DSE, Manual handling, Fatigue.

Further responsibilities:

  • Recommend and design appropriate control strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate control strategies e.g. LEV/PPE/RPE testing & inspection.
  • Deliver occupational hygiene training program e.g. asbestos awareness, dust down procedure, use and maintenance of PPE/RPE.
  • Ensure adequate assurance processes (inspections and audits) are undertaken of all operational sites (including onshore support centres and NUIs) covering the full range of occupational health and hygiene standards, guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensure coverage of accommodation, welfare and food preparation areas.
  • Ensure calibration systems for occupational hygiene kit are maintained.

Key Requirements Include:

  • The successful candidate will complete Perenco's structured Occupational Hygiene development programme, which is designed to support progression towards the BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene.
  • Occupational Hygienist working towards achieving or achieved BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene via either Qualifying BOHS accredited degree or Combination of BOHS W & P modules.
  • Minimum 1 years' experience in the field of occupational hygiene including knowledge of occupational hygiene measurement techniques.
  • Oil & Gas experience desirable but not essential.
  • Radiation Protection Supervisor experience desirable but not essential.
  • Drive and passion - ability to champion occupational hygiene and workplace health risks throughout the business, including influencing management and the workforce on key topics.
  • Excellent communication skills - ability to present articulately to a variety of forums and through a variety of mediums.
  • Ability to deliver to tight deadlines - produce work to a high standard within agreed delivery dates.
